Another artist I just picked up on. Again, not a US band, but good anyway. The name's Cui Jian, one of China's more popular old rock artists. A lot of the students played his stuff at the Tianamen Square protests. Sort of a more classic rock feel (Like Rolling Stones, perhaps. Coincidentally, they both played in China the other day, which is what brought him to my attention). Pretty quiet stuff, and the lyrics take a bit to get used to (They're almost exclusively Chinese), but I like it.

So, songs worth noting by Cui Jian:

      Nothing to my Name
      Chang Zheng
      The Power of the Powerless

I saw these guys live in a tiny club in February. If you ever get a chance, go and see them. Spectacular show.

What a fantastic, insane, mind bending trip of an album/song.

Ay!! On my quest to make classical music converts out of everyone!!

but seriously, there are neurons in your brain that connect when you experience new sensation, like classical music, and as you begin to understand its wonderful complexities and such you will realize it as possibly the greatest musical form to ever exst!! but enough about that

The Flaming Lips - The Spiderbite Song
My personal favorite from the Lips' best release.

      The Raconteurs - Intimate Secretary
      Jack White's new band

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Dani California
It's a little sub par compared to the rest of their work, but new Peppers is always good (double-album out May 9th).

      Born Ruffians - This Sentence
I'm pretty good friends with the drummer of this very good, very indie, very Pixie-esque Toronto band. They're currently the focus of a bidding war between a number of labels, major and independent alike. I hope the fame doesn't go to his head...

If you're interested you can check out a couple tracks on their myspace.

Listening to "Hedonistic Me" right now...they're good, have a little The Might Be Giants quality, the lead singer's voice mainly.

Interesting group, unique style, thanks for the link brady (HAHA I love all the "Ah ah!...Ah AH!!" at the end )

The Unicorns - I Was Born (A Unicorn)
How come all the other unicorns are dead?

      Islands - Volcanoes
      My current favorite.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Death Of A Martian
Closing track of the new double-album. Possibly the greatest closer ever.

      Fantomas - 04/02/05 Saturday
      Messed up.

Arctic Monkeys - I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor
I hate the Arctic Monkeys. This however, is the catchiest song ever.

Danielson - Did I Step On Your Trumpet?
      Good new indie band.

Destroyer - Painter In Your Pocket
      Awesome album, from Canada too.

Gnarls Barkley - Gone Daddy Gone
      Cool hip-hoppy Violent Femmes cover.

      Sufjan Stevens - Saul Bellow
One of the best off of the upcoming release, The Avalanche: Outtakes and Extras from the Illinois Album
