      Rock music with female vocals?

I thought this was as good a place to ask as any. Lately I've been on a quest for some good music with female front or male/female duo. I've been listening to some Skillet, Lacuna Coil, Flyleaf, Halestorm... I used to like Evanescence back in the day, think I'll give it another chance. Paramore is okay but not quite the sound I'm going for. Looking for something kind of hard rock or metal-ish but no screaming.

I traditionally listen to bands like Disturbed, oldschool Metallica ('98 and earlier), Alkaline Trio, Nine Inch Nails, Three Days Grace, Pearl Jam, Matchbox 20, and some newer Nickelback. Certain songs from Korn or Slipknot, but in small doses. Weird combo probably but I'm weird. I like the idea of female vocalists, but I feel like when it takes that whole "screw you and your new girlfriend" kind of tone (like some of Halestorm) I could just listen to country or pop to get that, neither of which I like.

You can skip the formality of telling me that I suck and my music sucks, unless you have a creative way to say it. Suggestions for any band that might fall in line with my tastes are welcome since I obviously need an update, but I'm mostly looking for female vocals right now.

If you like NiN you may like the first two here, since Trent Reznor wrote them (I think):

As well as this, also sad:
How To Destroy Angels - A Drowning - YouTube

Sad, black metal band but this song is kinda different, really beautiful to me, takes a couple mins to get started:
Wolves in the Throne Room - A Looming Resonance - YouTube

You specifically said no screaming but I can't resist posting this. I don't usually like screaming either, especially from a female vocalist, but it works soo well with her, plus it's so weird seeing her and hearing the voice coming out.
Arch Enemy - The Day you Died - YouTube

(Thankfully for my depressive days, from teenage angst to serious depression, now I can recommend sad songs!)

And for more of a hard alternative/rock sort of thing Belly is one of my favorites:

The whole Slow Dust ep is pretty amazing.

If you like some "harder" stuff, you could try Theatre of Tragedy, although they have changed their style from a Dark-Gothic in the beginnings to some Electro etc

There's Nightwish too, although they have changed the vocalist.

These are pretty well-known, though I had all but forgotten about them till this thread stirred the memories of great 90's music once again -

Wow, there are a lot more replies in here than I expected, thanks for the suggestions everyone Didn't forget, I'm just now getting to check these out. I've been at work / dealing with crap all day. Anyway just kind of jotting down a thought or two on each one:

Karloky -- That was... Strange. But actually kind of enjoyable. Probably not something I'd listen to often.

Dianeva -- Cool! You were right I do like the first two, they have that entrancing sound that I like about NIN. Wasn't as much into the next two though.

Darkmatters -- Hammerbox huh, pretty catchy! I kind of miss 90s grunge. Second one was okay but not really what I'm looking for... Third one I agree I'd have to be in the mood for it. Interesting though.

Box77 -- Definitely liking the first one, I was a little skeptical when the song started... Nightwish is the only group so far that I've heard of before asking this question, but I've never heard their music. Not bad but the guy's voice is weird, lol. Whole thing's got that oldschool metal sound do it though. Arch Enemy though, dear God that voice. I can't do it As for the last one, I've never really given Gothic type music a chance but I just might now.

LukeSid: Nice sound, I can get into that Kind of has an older feel to it which is perfectly good with me.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate all the suggestions. I feared I was trying to dig into something that didn't really exist but apparently I just wasn't digging correctly. Now I have some ideas of what to go searching for!

Wow Darkmatters you're on a roll, lol I was posting and didn't see your latest replies. I actually did give Evanescence another chance after I mentioned it, I was listening to some stuff off the newer self-titled album and it's pretty good. I was having this conversation last night with a friend and she mentioned Veruca Salt and Garbage, I'm not big fans of those for some reason although to give credit where it's due, Veruca Salt song you suggested is 10x better than the one my friend did (I don't remember which one it was).

Still though thanks for the suggestions. A lot of this stuff you guys have posted I've never even heard of, and I've been meaning to expand my music literacy a little bit. My cousin is a music fanatic (mostly stuff from the 70s and 80s though) but I always try to get him to step out of his little box. I'm gonna be blasting some of this stuff at him next time I see him, lol.

Lol ok, I'll stop monopolizing this thread now, but here's a song I fell in love with as soon as I heard it - the opening theme from Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. It's called Aeria Gloris by Yoko Kanno. If you like Evanescence..
