Hmm, I liked Elfen Lied to start off with, but it got stupid, and seemed to be more a hentai with a violent storyline; kinda annoyed me. Brilliant music and starting video though

Also, it's not actually anime, but the Korean live action adaptation of Oldboy is brilliant

Could somebody PLEASE recommend a SHORT anime; AROUND 50 EPISODES OR LESS!!! I'm anime-thirsty
Currently practicing WILD. I quote Kaniaz who said it best: "The point of WILD is to piss me off". Though, I have not given up, far from it.

I've been making a list of animes to try and watch some day and I looked up how many episodes they are. If I'm wrong and someone catches it, feel free to correct me:

      Trigun (26 episodes)
      D.N. Angel (26 episodes)
Noein (to your other self) (24 episodes)
      Samurai Champloo (26 episodes)
      Cowboy Bebop (26 episodes)
      Noir (26 episodes)
      Love Hina (25 episodes) (?)
      Fruits Basket (26 episodes)

On this list, I've only seen about 11 episodes of Trigun. HIGHLY recommend it, though

Don't forget Elfen Lied... 13 episodes (plus one OVA) of really messed up goodness, and also Hellsing (11 episodes?)

has a substantial amount of fighting and/or blood? Those seem to be the most entertaining for me.[/b]

      ELFEN LIED

      the goriest anime ever...

And, coincidentally, also one of the best...

      About the short anime series:

-Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu (the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) (13 episodes)
      -Azumanga Daioh (26 episodes)
-Neon Genesis Evangelion (26 episodes + one movie)
      -Cowboy Bebop (26 episodes)
      -Elfen Lied (13 episodes)
      -Gunslinger Girls (13 episodes)
-Death Note (ongoing, is estimated to last 37 episodes in total, but well worth seeing...)
      -Samurai Champloo
-For more anime series, just PM me, or look around this thread, the majority of the series mentioned here are >50 episodes... most of which are standard 26 episodes (and therefore >30 episodes)...

      Yup. Elfen Lied FTW!
The only anime that I liked more was Full Metal Alchemist.
Other series' I enjoyed that should be considered for that list:
      - Haibane Renme (Charcoal Feather Federation)
      - Planetes
      - Hikaru no Go

Death Note English dub voices for Light and L can be heard in one of the trailers of the Viz site:

correct me if i'm wrong but that death note trailer shows L's masked voice, not his real one. also, i'm not likin light's voice too much... not sure why but most dubs don't work out too well if you've seen the original. i guess its because i'm not used to the different voice. oh well, death note is a good anime, its a shame its only gonna be 37 eps (they are currently on 31)

Technically they give L's masked voice for most of the trailer, but at the end ("I am justice, yadda yadda") you can hear his actual voice for a few seconds.

If you ask me, the problem arises with dubs only because people don't realize how awkward a lot of dialogue is. Maybe it's translation issues, or maybe the Japanese aren't so spoiled with decades of bad one-liners (yet). Maybe they don't even care what they're listening to. I wouldn't know. But I definitely believe that people listening to dubs are just realizing how cheesy these lines can be ("I WILL BE GOD OF THE NEW WORLD! BUWHAHA!")

Also, you have to realize that the whole "Bishounen" voice thing doesn't carry over well into English. Therefore, we have adolescent/bitch Light instead of sauve Light. Honestly speaking though, they could've done a bit better by dub standards, considering the amount of money that has already been put into Death Note's production. The VA's feel a "bit off-the-shelf", so to speak.

You can definitely sense the rush put into the 2nd arc eps. But then again, DN wasn't really that great after the end of the first arc (plot went down hill, characters badly worked, etc.). At least Mikami is still extremely badass.

      KEEEYAAAAAHHHH!!!!!

What the hell is that?! SO HORRIBLE!!!! HORRIBLE!!!!

Dubings are rarely (if ever) good, but that one takes the cake.

I actually think the second arc in the anime was very well done. It was kind of a drag in the manga... seems like they cut out a lot of the useless boring stuff. This way, the second arc more closely matches the intensity of the first arc.

Fist of the North Star (the original film), and an edited version of the Majin Buu series with Vegeta peaking is all I still watch really.
