I just got back from the Movies also.

Hmmmmm... they should run a 10 minute refresher course on all that transpired in the first movie, because, frankly, nothing is at all straight forward. Things are referred to which are impossible to understand. After all, this is not Star Wars. Are the fans really expected to be religiously conversant with all the previous "Pirate..." Movies?

Yes there were funny moments, but the movie is largely dark, and focusses on the matter of Captain Jack actually being substantially evil... and that can hardly come out as actually funny... unless one has a very odd sense of humor. And then we have a theme of betrayal. Hilarious? Not really.

Then at the end of the Movie we find that we are slapped in the face by no real conclusion at all but with the impression that they must have already filmed "Pirates 3"... afterall, they would not take the chance of bringing such a cast back together again for another filming -- its already shot. The least they should do for the Present Audiance is to have given us coupons for the Next Showing. This time it was like we paid for nothing but Confusion, Dissillusionment, and Betrayal. Funny stuff.

The first one was very dark to me and I hope this new one capitalizes on that aspect a little more. I love Sparrow's motives throughout the first film; never thinking about the other character's fate, but using them, for better or worse, to get what he wants. I don't know how much that part of his personality really got through in the first one, but I hope that his selfish attitude is a little more apparent in this one. I’ll be seeing it either Saturday or Sunday.

By the way, I believe that they were filming Pirates 2 and 3 at the same time. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm not sure, but I wouldn't doubt it.

And since it's out in the open they did the same thing with the Matrix. It may be a ploy to get people to watch the next one (and an effective one to boot), but sometimes it's fun to have a movie to look forward to.

...and sometimes I wonder if people can just enjoy movies instead of analyzing or critisizing every little detail for accuracy or how cheesy it might be? My friends have done that for other movies and sometimes I'm tempted not to go with them the first time I see it

The reason I made the comment about Sparrow only doing things for himself is because I spoke to a number of people who didn't register that fact. They walked away from the film believing that Sparrow turned around to the good side or that he was always good, only misunderstood. Having to explain the movie so many times creates an impulse for me to mention that just because it's Disney doesn't mean that is necessarily has a positive moral. (Maybe friendship? Who cares?) Didn’t mean to point out the obvious.

I enjoyed the movie. Went to the 12:00 showing. Rather long, but it was worth the required time of sitting in a pretty hot room.
Ah, and Jack Sparrow is one of the best characters I've ever experienced.
I'm ready to see the third installment allready. =P

I watched the midnight showing in full pirate gear. I liked it, but I think the main reason I liked it was because of the Captain Jack moments, not the actual story. I don't really care about Will Turner or Elizabeth (Hell, it took me a moment to even remember that character's name). That bit of the story just isn't as interesting, y'know?

But I love the current two Captain Jack intros. Wonder what the third one will be like? They'd better not let me down.
And Keith Richards is supposed to finally be in the next one as Jack's father. He was going to be in this one, but skipped out to do a tour with his band.

And I loved the undead monkey bit. "Where's that monkey, I need to shoot something..."
      I totally know that feeling....

Movie tickets also cost more per person now, but still, that's an impressive number.

I saw POTC2 the first showing on opening day... I must say, I liked it, but I was a bit disappointed. Captain Jack Sparrow wasn't as suave and charming in this one, I thought, although I guess he wasn't supposed to be, considering the storyline. First was better, but what can you really expect from a sequel? Overall I enjoyed it.

i loved the first one, and i must say, i liked this one even better. i think partially because it's darker than the first, and i like dark things. i agree with what leo said about Captain Jack being substantially evil. that's part of why i like his character so much. he's so complex. some times he seems so substantially evil, and other times, you think he might actually be a nice guy. of course, you'd be wrong, but he does make you think that sometimes.

personally, i didn't have any problems with the conclusion. i mean, we all knew there'd be a third movie. we really couldn't expect them to just tie everything up all nice and neat.

i love how, generally, in trilogies, the second one always has a dark, non-happily-ever-after ending, yet there's still always a ray of hope. like Empire Strikes Back. and The Two Towers. (honestly, i don't really remember the ending of Attack of the Clones, but it seems like it might have been an exception to this rule. Revenge of the Sith was darker, i think.)

I saw it and was ultimately entertained. My big gripe was that the story progressed by a number of coincidences. I don't like stories that move that way. But there were a lot of interesting turns in the story that kept you surprised. I, too, search for all things dark, negative, and questionable, so I'm happy that they dropped some of the quirky, slapstick Disney routines and went for a greyer story. As hilarious as Jack was in the first one, it's good that they stuck to the fact that after he got The Pearl back he lost his... uh... flamboyancy, to a point.

I thought the ending was ridiculous. Why did they need that many cliffhangers? And huge cliffhangers, at that. It now almost makes me say, "who cares?" That's not to say that I'm not excited about three. I can't wait for it.

I saw the film yesterday, and I loved it!

I actually just laughed at the end, don't know why, but me and the guy I went with just burst out laughing.

It had some very funny moments, and that fight scene in the water wheel was genius.

And my new favourite quote "Wheres that monkey, I want to shoot something!"
