When I was a lot younger I was terrified of the scarab beetles in The Mummy because they went underneath your skin. But then I saw it again recently and realised that the film was very tongue-in-cheek. Nowadays films aren't as scary as when I was younger.

Reminds me of a film I was shown in class when I was 10. It was about the guy whose name eludes me and his technicolour dreamcoat. It had partial nudity in it, the women in it wore these netting tops that were completely see through. it was kind of inappropiate seeing it was done as a film of a play being acted to young children. anyone else know which film I'm on about?

I'd say the scariest movies are the one's that affect you even after watching them.

This is by far the scariest movie for me. My friend and I were about 14 and watched this at about 1:00 in the morning, we went outside to piss for the entire next day because we couldn't face the mirror in the bathroom.

#2. Child's Play 2. I was like 8 when I first saw this and for years after I would imagine little Chuckie jumping around dark corners with a big kitchen knife in his hand. I actually started to sleep in my older brother's bedroom because I couldn't fall asleep alone after watching this movie.

I had to walk back through my neighborhood after watching this movie and I walked directly down the center of the street because I couldn't get anywhere near the sewer drains.

Poltergeist had the most lasting impression on me. I watched that when I was a kid and it ruined:
1. Clowns
2. Under my bed. I had to jump off of my bed to the door for years, I would not dare hang my feet off of the bed for fear of them being grabbed by whatever is hiding under there.
3. Closets. I couldn't sleep if my closet was even cracked open.

All in all a very traumatic experience. I still scold my mom for letting me watch it at such a young age.

Stephen King's "It" reinforced what I already knew about clowns. That they are spawn of the devil and they are not to be trusted.

I think this scared me the most because it just felt so realistic. The family in the movie reminded me a lot of my own, and ive always believed in aliens and the thought of them being horribly evil gave me the willies. Just that scene of the kids party when they´re filming and its in the back yard. Its just so believable!!

And war of the worlds. I hate Tom Cruise but that movie is awesome. The sound effects are the jem i think.

Signs is my favorite "trying to be scary but awesome anyway" movie!

My vote goes for The Shining, saw it when i was very young, scared the bejesus out of me.
Heeere comes DADDY!

Edit: I'm also not into gore or other cheap effects that try to make you tense, they usually don't have any replay value.
