This is a good movie, though there are three + threads about this movie on DV. All this aside, I think it is a great movie.

I've seen it about 16 times now, I think I finally have it all figured out....except for that tall, skinny monotone kid who turns into an alien and disappears at the end of his monologue....that shit's crazy.

well....i have to say lol i dont really think that movie made much sense to me..maby its cuz im only a B student in 10th grade? lol. cuz it was Deep....ima finish it tonight, i watched like 3/4 of it lastnight....was the first 1/2hour -45minutes or w/e even about lucid dreaming or were thoughs concerstations supposed to be entertaining....the only one i thought was really cool was the guy and the guy in bed talking bout the 12minutes after death and if they are dreaming right now...i used to think like that...what if my whole life is a dream and im really some 60year old homless man..?

I also reccomend you check out mirror mask. Its basicly one big lucid dream.

Has anyone else seen mirror mask? How was that...was it "about" lucid dreaming? Or is it jus werid and its something "like" lucid Dreaming?

Ive just watched MirrorMaks and Waking Life an the are both recommendable films. MirrorMask is a visually abstract film with some strange locations and events but it has a coherent storyline and definately a narrative character. Its not a film about lucid dreaming but its like a dream and incorparates some elements of lucid dreaming. Waking Life is definately about lucid dreaming. Its protagonist is shown in one big lucid dream with false awakenings and lots of different dreamcharacters. These dreamcharacters are telling the protagonist their interesting stories, philosophical theories or give him some good advices (I think you will really need to watch the film several times to understand all of the things said - at least when english is not you native language...). Some talking went about about what is perception, dreaming, life and death - and some interesting remarks about telepathy and the 'universal consciousness', too. But one has to be said: The protagonist realizes that he is dreaming, but doesnt do much with it - he is not in control. Oh, and not to forget - the visual style is quite unique! However, I can just recommend both movies - especially to lucid beginners! (...what a lucky guy I am to have found this topic ) They will give newbies a good idea of the concept of lucid dreaming and the things that might follow...

Waking Life is an awesome movie. The way the animation is really makes it feel dream-like. I wish I had such intellectual conversations in my dreams like the main character does.

I rented Waking life the other night, sat down expecting something amazing, with all the talk from the forums about it, 30 minutes into it, I started skipping chapters.. and then when it was at about an hour into it.. I shut it off. I couldn't stand the movie, the movements in the movie were so skippy it was straining(sp?) my eyes, cause I was focusing on about 50 things at once. All the moving lines and shit.. annoyed me. Now I understand that it is about LDing and that it is going to try to portray a dream.. but.. I will never watch it or recommend it to anyone, unless they really just want to see it. My 2 cents. - It really had no story, that pissed me off - It jumped too much - The whole intellectual part of it, I could've done without, some of it was interesting, but boring to me You want to argue about it, go for it.

It took me a couple of views to digest Waking Life. First time i didn't see what all the hype was about and found it quite pretentious, second time i still didn't really see it but was increasingly intrigued. Then by the 4th viewing i was really enjoying it. Now it's absolutely one of my favourites. It still has a layer of pretentiousness, but i can look past that now. Branson, i don't have a problem with you not liking the movie at all, it's completely understandable why somebody would not like it, but i find it a bit strange that you've formed such a strong position on it without even watching it all or giving it a proper chance. But if you find it that repulsive that you can't bare to watch it, fair enough. To each their own.
