It is considered to be one of the most widely distributed video game franchises of all time, and includes standard console role-playing games, Tactical role-playing games, portable games, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game, games for mobile phones, three anime productions, and two full length CGI films. Unlike most game series, the separate installments of the main series bearing the "Final Fantasy" name are nearly always unconnected in terms of plot and gameplay specifics, and, thus, the installments are not sequels in the strict sense. A number of the spin-off games are related to one of the games in the main series.
Final Fantasy.. Ah yes, the miracle that has consumed and taken many of our lives. This series of games is, in my humble opinion, one of the best game series out there.

I've played a lot of Final Fantasies, and I must say once I got into the game, I wasn't easily able to stop playing. Yes, this series has taken a lot of hours of my life. Yet, I'm not complaining. I've had fun.

So, discuss.

What Final Fantasies have you played? Etc. Myself, in order of finishing:

1. Final Fantasy X
2. Final Fantasy VII
3. Final Fantasy X-2
4. Final Fantasy IX
5. Final Fantasy VIII
6. Final Fantasy VI
7. Final Fantasy XII

My latest addition is twelve, or XII, and I must say that although I'm not very far into the game yet, I absolutely abwhore it. I've only played for 3-4 hours but I'm loving it already (and usually these games get some time to get into).

I must say that VII is my favourite. Most people say the story and characters were weak, but I loved it. Every. Single. Bit. It was the one Final Fantasy that brought RPG gaming into mainstream and it was the first Final Fantasy I saw too, so that might have something to do with it.

So, what Final Fantasies have you played, finished, which ones do you like best, etc?

I've played 1,4,5,6 and 8, but have only finished 4 and 6. I'd probably be further in the others but these days I've been playing Tales Of games, so FF has taken a back seat. I'd definitely say that 6 is my fav' of the series so far, by a long shot.

I have never in my life played a Final Fantasy game. It is also worth nothing that I have never, in my life, even seen a Final Fantasy game.

I've beaten 7, gotten about 90% of the way through 8 and maybe 80% of 10.

As someone that never got into turn-based-battle RPG's at the time (or saw the point) FF7 opened my eyes as to how badass they could be and remains one of the best games I've ever played.

VI is usually rated the best, followed by VII, although people argue on this point. I liked VIII despite the fact that it was rated poorly by a lot of people. X was pretty good, and XII was okay. I'm hoping XIII and XIII: Versus won't disappoint.

I've played and beaten

final fantasy 1
final fantasy 4
final fantasy 6
final fantasy 7
final fantasy 8 (almost. got to the end boss to find that my disc wouldn't play the ending CG funny in retrospect though)

final fantasy mystic quest... i don't know why it gets such a bad rap. it's pretty mindless. but i beat it in almost one sitting when i got the flu.

overall i'd say.

Best:
1. FF6
2. FF1 (don't know why i like this game so much..just THE classic RPG, it rocks)
3. FF7
4. FF4
5. FF8 (it would get number 3 if it wasn't for the horrible draw system and lack of charcters)

after fooling around with part 10, i vowed to never touch another squaresoft game. thus it is so. until they put out a new bushido blade..they are on boycott.

@oni, yeah i know what you mean. 7 had THE best pacing out of all of them. I can't even play RPGs anymore, because it's damn near impossible to sit through the 45 minute intro's. Plus there's always a dull part about 3/4's of the way through, where i simply lose interest and turn my A.D.D. towards an action game.

That is exactly what happened with FF8. Even though I stuck with it a while afterwards, there was definitely a huge lull that just stayed with me. After a while, I didn't even care if I beat the game or not.

And I can't f'ckin wait for the next Bushido Blade.

Whoa, I didn't know there were actually other people who've played Bushido Blade. A pretty fun game considering how clumsy the controls were.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Mystic Quest. That one's held my attention better than 8 so far. The storyline is pretty much nil, but it's still pretty cool. I can see why some don't like it. It's not very FF-ish.

I've played FFVII and FFX. My hubby is playing FFXII right now. We have FFX2 but neither one of us has played it yet. I like FFX the best because of the graphics and voices and cutscenes, but FFVII was awesome as well.

We like Final Fantasy so much that our pets are named after FF characters:
Cloud, Titus (supposed to be Tidus but I change the spelling), and Red XIII

Are you actually serious? When I saw the names of your cats earlier I thought about that (Cloud/Titus) but I'd never thought that could actually be true. You are a God.

lesse.. i have 6,7,9,10, and 12

Not counting graphics (of course) 6 is best in my opinion. The characters seem to actually have life even though they're just sprites. I mean, the first time you use magic the other 2 characters you're traveling with stop (in the middle of a fight) and theres a mini-scene where they're freaked out by it. XD

Its awesome. you gotta see it. If you havn't played some of the earlier games just because of the graphics... go and play them. I noticed that the graphics for a FF6 game feel more visually pleaseing after a while then something like FF10 graphics after a while. To me anyways. I like the way it looks. Its simple, its nice =D.

First FF game I played was number 7, and I loved it - but I never got very far (I remember something about part of the city exploding) because I was borrowing it along with a Playstation.

Another one I've played is 9 or 10... but I'm not sure - which is the one where you try to kill some lady during a parade? 'Cause I played that one, too.

Does anyone know where I can still play FF7 without having to buy an old playstation? I'd love to finish what I started.

That is, indeed, not very far.

I'm a pretty big fan of the series. I've played and completed 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, and Tactics. I also really enjoyed the MMORPG, Final Fantasy 11. I'd like to play 6 sometime soon.

From Favorite to Least Favorite:

1. Tactics
2. IX
3. VII
4. XI
5. X
6. IV
7. I
8. VIII
9. II
10. XII

It seems odd that my favorite FF (Tactics) and my least favorite (XII) were created by the same team... but I felt that Tactics was innovative, dark, and cleverly planned, while XII was shallow, dull, and unfocused.

None of them were horrible, though. Each of them has had fantastic music and wonderful graphics (for their respective time periods, of course).

Haha, darn! Yes, the Wild Western Gunman...

I think everyone can agree with me that the parade scene is amazing.

Oh, and I completely forgot about Tactics! That one was awesome, too.

Yes, VII ia also my fave. But I really disagree with those people who say the characters and plot were weak. That's absolutely ridiculous. Out of all the FFs I've played (VII, VIII, IX, X, and part of XII) Cloud probably has the strongest character development of all. There are so many facets to his personality and so many changes his character undergoes throughout the game, it's insane to me that someone would consider this as "weak character development." As for the plot... the plot rocks too. So uhhh, that makes them twice as stupid.

Also... with FFXII... Pretty much all the hardcore FF players I've met absolutely hate this game, and I can't understand why. I really don't think it's a bad game. My only problem with it is that it really doesn't feel like an FF game. I heard that many of the people who were in charge with the previous FFs like the composer, Nobuo Uematsu, and the director retired before FFXII was made, which would explain why the game has a different feel. I don't know... I guess my overall opinion is that it's a good game. It's very well made and fun to play, it just shouldn't be labeled as a "Final Fantasy game."

Actually, Nubuo Uematsu still made the music in FFXII, I don't know about the rest though.

Nope. XII's OST was composed by Hitoshi Sakimoto, the same guy who composed for Final Fantasy Tactics. Uematsu only composed the theme song: "Kiss Me Good-Bye".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_fantasy_xii

Uematsu doesn't work for Square Enix anymore... he has his own company called "Smile Please". Most recently, he composed for Blue Dragon, a Mistwalker game.

In order i have played:

7, 9, 8, 10, 10-2 and 12

7 has to be the best. The story is brilliant and although confuzing at first, its not that strange.

10-2 was the worst, a complete and utter failiour

I am not so far on 12, im up to the part where you have to fight some Demon wall thing, im lvl 24+ i think it is good for that location? Its an OK game, its not great, im not too keen on the setting, i dont really like how they did the mix of past with future specially with the Western type setting. But thats just me.

Anyway Final Fantasy is an awesome game, and i really dispise that 13 will be on PS3!!!! I NEED MONEY!!

I love number 7. I have it for the PS2. (Greatest Hits list) I also have 1&2 (GBA SP), 6 (Super NES under the title of FF3) 3, (Nintendo DS) and 12. (PS2) Really great series. seven is the best.
