Yeah, and I think fox took all this into account...hence their hesitation on moving forward with this film (mind you they acquired the license to shoot this film many years ago, but sat on it) but I think if they're moving forward with it...they have some trump cards up their sleeves that we'll all be amazed at. They've got people working on this movie that worked on 300, matrix, bourne supremacy etc...the movie will be given a release date in summer of '08

Aww.... I wish they were doing the Freeza arc.

Any DBZ live action movie will still be on my must see list.

This sucks, definately should have done either the cell or frieza saga's.

Well the Piccolo saga was the part most people started in with, so it makes sense to start there.. Frieza and Cell might make sequels if this is successful.

I agree. The reason they started back so early is probably because they're looking to do sequels depending on the successful gross of this movie. Maybe the last trilogy will involve Goku going SS? o.o

Yeah, lol. They had "I'm the Juggernaut, bitch!" in X3 so who knows?

This movie was originally planned to come out in 05' but never went anywhere because they fired the creator of the DBZ series from the production team.

You've got to give them a little credit, at least. Anime aliens to real world designs seems pretty tough.

The picture of piccolo on the original post of this thread is a teaser, a fanfic pic just as the poster directly below it is a teaser as well. No official pictures have been released.

I've got mixed feelings about this.

I'm excited that the movie's been given the green light, but the way things are looking, it could go either way. It's good that they started with the Piccolo Saga, but there was heavy, heavy martial arts in that saga. Probably more-so than any saga that followed (except maybe the Freiza saga). It focused much more grappling and speed-fighting. I don't think these cast members know the first thing about fighting, so I'm kind of skeptical about what their level of training will be able to do for them, and whether or not it will make the fights believable. These characters are supposed to be the greatest fighters on the planet. They better deliver.

However, it is produced by the guys that brought us Kung-Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer. That's a definite plus. They've been able to pull of some really DBZ-ish fight scenes, so that's got my hopes up a little.

As far as the cast members, based on looks, I do have a hard time with Goku not being played by an asian. I guess I've always just pictured him as one, but Chatwick does kind of have the "docile Goku" kind of face. I haven't really seen any pictures of him when he's serious/pissed-off, so I can't really say too much on that now.

Marsters is not going to be playing the piccolo that you have a picture of, though, Jeff. He's going to be playing King Piccolo, which is the one in the first picture on this thread. He looks like this.



He's the older, skinnier piccolo, before his resurrection. The one in the picture that you have beside Marsters is the younger, more muscular piccolo.

Jamie Chung is going to be playing ChiChi:



I've never seen her act, but she's definitely a hot one....so that's half the battle won. Haha.

And "It's over 9000!" definitely wouldn't be in this one. So we'll have to see how well this does and whether or not they plan on making it a series.

There's a lot of controversy already about this movie. From my research, if I had to put it into a percntage...90% of supporters of the anime/film are outraged that Goku is to be played by a scrawny white kid. They would much prefer a Jap-american guy.

My thoughts? I was pissed when I found out goku was played by this kid as well, because of his ethnicity and his size. But now that I think about it...Goku was never "asian" really. His blood is alien to earth, so he very well "could" be portrayed by a white character. Though I would rather see a half asian/half white guy play goku with an american accent, not a foreign accent. Someone like Brandon lee,

Yeah, I agree with that. I've just always pictured him as such, especially since he and Yamcha look almost identical, and Yamcha is "supposedly" Asian (even though the show takes place in all fictional locations. You can tell that that was who they were modeled after).

And yeah. Brandon Lee would make an awesome Goku, but maybe not at this stage in Goku's life. He was supposedly like 18-20, during the Piccolo Saga.

I would say maybe Ernie Reyes Jr., but I think he's make a better Vegeta than a Goku, being so short and all. Come to think of it, I think he'd make a perfect Vegeta. Heh.

I can't really think of anybody, right off the bat, that strikes me as a good choice for Goku...

Hmmm..maybe that kid that was the main character in Kung-Fu Hustle. He's probably the best I can think of, now.

Hmm. Ok. I just googled him. He's actually a lot older than he looked in KFH, though.

I'm still trying to think of who would play a good Goku. That's a lot harder role to fill than a thought.

[Edit: Maybe Tony Jaa...but he'd have to learn some Kung-Fu. I couldn't see Goku doing Muay Thai.]

Honestly, I hope they don't go too overboard with the hairdos. I interpret that they are all just really exaggerated, in the anime, so, while they should still have big hair, I hope they don't get completely retarded with it. Haha. Cartoon-to-live-action hair hardly ever comes out right...but I was impressed with what they did with Wolverine, in X-men. He actually made a whacked-out hairdo look awesome. Heh.
