      Devil May Cry 4

Well? Have you played it, are you playing it?

I'm currently on Mission 10 on Human Mode. I'm only renting it, but I may have to buy it considering there is SIX difficulty levels. No, seriously. SIX.

      Discuss.

Yep, I've played. Love the DMC series.
Borrowed from a friend, he's taken it back now but I completed it in Devil Hunter mode.

I will probably buy it one day, maybe a used copy since I've played it so much already. I want to try Son of Sparda mode. It looks really hard.

I had a dream about it also, I had Nero's sword the Red Queen and was fighting Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7, I kept revving the sword it was cool. Not lucid though.

The DMC series is one of my favorites, and I would love to have DMC4, unfortunately I don't have a console for it... the last console I bought was the gamecube when it came out in 2002. I will just have to wait until it releases for the PC, or just buy the PS3 if I can part with the money.

Indeed, though I'm leaning more towards buying the PS3 than the 360. The PS3 seem to have more of the games I want, and the most successful games on the 360 usually is released to PC also, however poorly optimized they tend to be.

360 is the way to go.. trust me.

Ps3 is not only twice as expensive, but the online for the PS3 lacks alot, and the games are starting to become non-exclusive. Even MGS4 might go to 360. If you're looking for a good system and not that much cash to put down for it, 360 is your best bet.

What exactly does the online PS3 lack? Monthly subscription fees?
      Also, PS3 outsold 360 in January 08-

But here it is anyway, courtesy of the NPD, whose numbers are some of the most reliable in the industry. So I'll just cut to the chase and give you those January 2008 numbers:

      274k - Wii
      269k - PlayStation 3
      251k - Nintendo DS
      230k - PlayStation Portable
      230k - Xbox 360
As well as this, there is a spew of games lined up for PS3, just look at these two lists (courtesy of Gamespot) of "Coming soon" games:

I know which one seems more exciting to me, and this was just a random test.

Add to that the increasing library of A* games and the new, lower price I'd say that the PS3 is just as equal as the 360. (prices taken from amazon.co.uk)

      PS3 40gb: £280

      Xbox 360 Standard: £230

      360 Elite: £280
So the PS3 is not actually "twice as expensive as the 360".

And the non-exclusivity part is common for most current-gen titles as production costs is much much higher than last-generation titles. To make the most money (and minimise risk) developers now have to develop for both 360 and PS3.

And let's not forget the Blu-ray capabilities (now that Blu-Ray has won the war against HD-DVD)

With an official press release Toshiba has removed all hope for those few people who still believed in HD DVD as the successor to DVD. The undisputed winners in the battle for a DVD heir are now Blu-ray, Blu-ray makers like Sony with their BDp-S300 or Sharp with their BD-HP20, and of course the still dominant DVD. After lengthy consideration, Toshiba, according to the press release, decided not to develop, build or market HD DVD player or recorders anymore.
      ----------

Don't get me wrong, the 360 is a good console with a very respectable back-catalogue of games, however, at this stage in time it looks to me like the PS3 is just slightly edging into the lead.

      Pwnt? Barely.

Xbox 360's have a three year warranty, so if it breaks, you're covered for 3 years. They also have a 2 year head start on PS3, which has a bunch of shit games.

Ps3 has a bunch of horrible games, and anything you want on PS3 (excluding LittleBigPlanet, God of War, and Haze), you can get on Xbox 360 and have achievements too. Not to mention the incredible online service that is Xbox Live. Ooo, $50.00 for a year of an excellent service, how cheap do you have to be to complain about that? The Xbox Live service not only has customization, but free demos and videos, including coverage of E3 and GDC and X08, when the time comes around.

PS3 has POTENTIAL. Potential in big capital letters. But with lack of 3rd party software due to the AMAZING blu-ray discs the PS3 runs on, the Ps3 is good for a cheap Blu-Ray player.

So if that's what you want, is a $500.00 Blu-Ray player with a few decent games, then go ahead and buy a PS3. But if you're smart, you'd stick with the Xbox 360 and at least to make sure that PS3 has a few good games on its line-up. At least wait till 2009 to purchase one.

      Also, to add to that...

Off of GAMERANKINGS.COM, which averages up all reviews on a game to determine it's ranking.....

      TOP TEN PS3 TITLES

      1. Call of Duty 4- 93.469%
      2. Elder Scrolls Oblivion- 93.250%
      3. Rock Band- 90.800%
      4. Uncharted Drake's Fortune- 89.826%
      5. Ratchet and Clank- 88.518%
      6. Burnout Paradise- 87.382%
      7. Ninja Gaiden Sigma- 87.134%
      8. Resistance: Fall of Man- 86.655%
      9. Virtua Figher 5- 86.542%
      10. GRAW 2- 86.483%

Okay now... Let's look at this list....

      1. Call of Duty 4- You can get it on the 360.
      2. Elder Scrolls Oblivion- You can get it on the 360.
      3. Rock Band- You can get it on the 360.
      4. Uncharted Drake's Fortune- Very good game for PS3.
      5. Ratchet and Clank- Yeah.. pretty much my main reason to buy a PS3 when/if I do...
      6. Burnout Paradise- you can get it on the 360.
      7. Ninja Gaiden Sigma- Spin-off of the original Xbox title "Ninja Gaiden", which you can download off Xbox Live for $45.00 less than the PS3 price.
      8. Resistance: Fall of Man- HORRIBLE GAME. Ugh. It makes me sick.
      9. Virtua Fighet 5- You can get it on the 360.
      10. GRAW 2- You can get it on the 360.

So, the total tally? 7/10 of the top PS3 games, are available on the Xbox 360. Two of those games are actually good, the other one is completely overated.

      TOP TEN XBOX 360 TITLES

      1. The Orange Box- 96.114%
      2. Bioshock- 95.184%
      3. Call of Duty 4- See Above.
      4. Elder Scrolls Oblivion- See Above.
      5. Gears of War- 93.766%
      6. Halo 3- 93.313%
      7. Rock Band- See Above.
      8. Guitar Hero II- 91.925%
      9. Rez HD- 90.850%
      10. Mass Effect- 90.756%

Now, let's look at THIS list.

      1. Orange Box- You can get it on Ps3 too.
      2. Bioshock- Xbox 360 ONLY, and also won GAME OF THE YEAR in Game Informer Magazine, and Spike TV's Game Awards.
      3. Call of Duty 4- Ps3 too.
      4. Elder Scrolls Oblivion- Ps3 too.
      5. Gears of War- Xbox 360 ONLY.
      6. Halo 3- Xbox 360 ONLY.
      7. Rock Band- Ps3 too.
      8. Guitar Hero II- Ps2 also.
      9. Rez HD- Xbox 360 ONLY ( or a Dreamcast if you really have one..)
      10. Mass Effect- 90.756%- Xbox 360 ONLY.

Final tally? Half of the games are Xbox 360 exclusive titles.

So, when you compare the two... you can buy a Xbox 360 and miss out on Two games for Ps3 only.

Now.. don't get me wrong, the Ps3 is a cheap Blu-Ray player, with a shitty lineup.

Why are there such a large portion of gamers who are completely intolerant of other peoples console preferences?

Warlock said he wants a PS3 to play DMC4 on because he prefers the PS3's games. Who are you to say he'd prefer 360 games and should get a 360 instead?

I have a PS3, and am very happy with my choice because I really want games like Final Fantasy, MGS4 and other exclusives. There are plenty of shared games I want but no 360 exclusives I want. So I chose PS3, and it doesn't matter how many 360's they sell, how much or a head start it had or how mainstream it becomes. Unless it has games I want, I won't buy it. Just like you won't buy a PS3 because 360 has all the games you want.

BTW, MGS4 is a PS3 exclusive. It's been confirmed by Konami many times. Not that I care. If it came to 360 also then more people can play it, fine with me. Not everyone can own a PS3.

I do think PS3 is a good choice now that HD-DVD has been defeated though. Might as well get a BD player built into your console rather than spend more for a dedicated player down the track. But only if you prefer PS3's games of course.

Probably because they become very possessive of their consoles after having traded their social lives for the chance to play them.

And Amaze, just stop talking before you embarrass yourself even further.

How about you stop being a fucking asshole. "Traded their social lives?"

Wow... fucking prick is acting like he knows me. I'm not saying I'm intolerant of other people's consoles. Maybe you missed the part where I said I was waiting on purchasing one. As in... I will purchase one eventually, but the 360 is the better deal now. So, I really don't care if you'd rather sit on your ass and play Nintendo 64... Xbox 360 is just a better deal right now.

And word of the wise Pontification, how about you not mouth off and make yourself look like a jackass.

I was making a point that alot of the PS3 titles are starting to be non-exclusive, so liking all the "good" PS3 games are basically liking the multi-platformed games.

It works the other way, some 360 games are being ported to PS3. For example: Lost Planet.

I explained before that this isn't any sign of "weakness". If more people get to play the games and enjoy them then that's fine by me. And if it allows game developers to sit easy knowing that they've minimised the risk of publishing a game in a dangerous market, also fine.

However, it's a sad fact that most games that are developed from the ground up for a specific console are superior to multi-platform titles. And I hope that developers will also realise that.

The thing is most 360 owners need that warranty, what with the ring of fire. Also the two-year headstart is a valid point. The PS3 has been only out for slightly less than a year, and so far I think it's done pretty well in that time. Okay, it hasn't blasted out of the gates like the Wii did, but it's been ambling along nicely, releasing several good games.

I don't really keep on top of 360 games, but what are the really good exclusive titles planned for 2008? I'm genuinely interested.

PSN has free demos, videos, wallpapers and themes. It also has downloadable content, PSN games and PlayStation 1 classics for sale. I'll admit, at the moment the PlayStation Store is a bit bad (espescially in Europe) with poor updates, but for a free service, it's not all that bad.

What lack of 3rd party software? Other than that I agree with you.

I think that the time to purchase one is now, so that you can keep up with the new releases. Although you do raise a valid point about the so-so games library at the moment. But I don't think it's as bad as you make out, for example, I myself own:

Motorstorm - Very very good fun. What's not to like about it?

Resistance - It's showing it's age graphics-wise already, but as a launch title it was good. The online play is still one of the best you can get on PS3 at the moment.

skate. - It may not be "exclusive" but I can still enjoy playing it.

The Orange Box - It has none of the framerate issues that some people were talking about. And is one of the best FPSs I've ever played.

Uncharted - Brilliant fun. Probably my favourite PS3 game. The graphics, gameplay, EVERYTHING is amazing. I can't stop dusting it off to get a new unlockable.

Assassin's Creed - Good game, shame about the substandard plot.

I'd say that that's not a bad lineup of games to play on PS3.

      -------------------------

Also, Amazeo, you shouldn't really generalise saying "the 360 is the better deal right now." For some it might not be. This was intended to be constructive criticism.

Xbox 360 is just a better deal right now.
Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

And word of the wise Pontification, how about you not mouth off and make yourself look like a jackass.

Yes because I am the one cursing and calling people "pricks." How dare I mouth off. I really shouldn't use phrases like "fucking prick" anymore.

Your stupendous arguments astound me, by the way. There is no way I could compete with dancing emoticons, internet speak, or defensive cursing (yeah, in case you were wondering, it's pretty obvious you went on the defensive).

You play a demon-hunter called Nero who has a sword and a gun. It's basically a very competent hack'n'slash. If you've played God of War then it's similar to that. I'm sure owners of the game will be able to go into more detail.

Yeah, that's in, in a nut-shell (speaking as someone who's played the others, but not the newest one).

The one thing I've always loved about DMC is that the battle system is awesome. It's probably got the best battle system of any third-person adventure game I've ever played. The way you can move around and switch from guns to blades to Devil Mode in the blink of an eye, for combos, is just insane.

I love the little extra movements too, like how, if you're close to an enemy and you double jump, you can jump off of their shoulders, flip over them, and continue shooting. Definitely some of the most stylish combat ever.

Yeah, I'm 17 bud. Thanks for asking. Yeah, i did get on the defensive side after you made the assumption that I have no friends and traded my social life for video games. How about you don't come in here and start talking shit.
You do this every fucking time.

What about all the other stuff I said in that post?

The thing is most 360 owners need that warranty, what with the ring of fire. Also the two-year headstart is a valid point. The PS3 has been only out for slightly less than a year, and so far I think it's done pretty well in that time. Okay, it hasn't blasted out of the gates like the Wii did, but it's been ambling along nicely, releasing several good games.

What are these horrible games?! Every console has some bad games, it's not all videogaming gold.

It's cool to see that you at least can have a sensible conversation, unlike Pont over here.

      Let's discuss this...

Uncharted- I agree. It's a fucking awesome game.

Assasin's Creed- Yeah, I just rented this one. It was alright, the plot was SHIT though.

      Orange Box- agreed. Excellent game.

Skate.- I didn't like skate... I thought it was a little weird. It was very innovative, which was cool, but the game itself was kind of lacking.

Resistance- I still don't like it.

      Motorstom- It was cool.

      Xbox 360 games coming out

Actually, GDC just announced a bunch.

      Ninja Gaiden 2,
      Gears of War 2,
      Too Human,
Army of Two (I think thats PS3 also though..)
      Exclusive GTA 4 content,
A SHIT load of XNA games (user-created).

There's others, but I can't think of em.
You do this every fucking time.
      No sweat.
      No tears.
      No guilt.
