I saw this on Fox, it was actually hard to watch. I can't comprehend people who would do this crap for money.

This reminded me of Jerry Springer.

      "This is your ex-boyfriend Frank."

      This is... really... damn... embarassing.

I have a feeling that it's fake, but I want to watch it.

Wait, we don't have this show in Australia. How does that computer voice thing know if she's lying or not?

Don't ask me how I know this...

There's a new form of software that police and other people use, and it takes the audio-waves of your voice and uses it to determine whether or not you're telling the truth.

Say I said.. " I'm an admin on Dreamviews.com" in the most clear, un-funny voice ever. It could sound like the truth, but this software knows, from the waves in your voice, that you're telling the truth. I assume this is what they use.

      Or it's all fake.

I think in the preview before the show came out they talked about the contestants were hooked up to a lie detector

      The way it works is:

      Quote Originally Posted by Wikipedia
Prior to the show, a contestant is hooked up to a polygraph and asked more than 50 questions; there is no polygraph testing conducted during the actual show. Without knowing the results of the polygraph, he or she is asked 21 of those same questions again on the program, each becoming more personal in nature. If the contestant answers honestly as confirmed by the polygraph, he or she moves on to the next question; however, should a contestant lie in his or her answer (as determined by the polygraph) or simply refuse to answer a question after it has been asked, the game ends and the contestant loses all of the prize money accumulated. For each tier of questions answered correctly, the contestant wins the corresponding amount of money. A contestant may stop at any time before any question is asked and collect the money he or she has won. Honestly answering all 21 questions wins the jackpot of $500,000.

Friends, work colleagues, and family of the contestant who are gathered near the player have access to a button which can be used to switch out a question once per game, an option which is introduced to them after the third question.

Hey, if they show it, I'll watch it. It's not funny in the "omg this is sooo entertaining" way, its funny in the "I can't believe Fox is stupid enough to telecast this" way.

But when they start executing people on air, thats where I stop watching.

Yeah dude, they just do a regular polygraph before the show. So, the contestants actually know ahead of time the possible questions that could be asked.

Anyway, that episode wasn't all THAT hard to watch for me. What I wonder is, how did this chick agree to go through with the show after being asked those 50 questions behind the scenes?

I don't think any of it is fake except for maybe the host's emotions on the matter. I really doubt he cares all that much.

If you go to the website for this show, they have one-minute recaps of most of the episodes. I watched the recap for this episode, and one of the questions was

"Do you blame your husband Frank for your lack of close friends?"
      "yes"
      etc...
and then she said "I don't really care about the money, it just feels good to get all of this stuff off of my chest."

I believe she went on the show knowing full-well that it would end up with her divulging this information to her husband and family, but she thought it would be the easiest way for her to come clean. Kind of like marriage-suicide.

So I don't see why people don't suck it up and just answer all the questions correctly and get the money.

Like, honestly, either all the people on the show are prepped, or they are actors. I'd just be like "yes yes no yes no no yes yes" really quickly to get it over with. No need for the damn drama. Plus, don't they realize how goddamn unreliable polygraphs are? Say they asked you "do you constantly watch horseporn?" I don't know about you, but I'd be sweating and my heart would be beating for this one. Why? Because I would hate for it to have a false positive. Because of that, I get worried that it would say a false positive, in effect causing a false positive. Furthermore, when they are like "oh, well the detector says you were lying, which means deep down inside you really feel that way." That is bullshit, if you ask me. It means the show isn't about telling the truth, but knowing how to work a lie detector. Like, the whole concept of the show seems stupid to me, because if you agree to go on the show, the options are absolutely going to be A) get nothing B) get some money, but still get somewhat humiliated C) reveal a lot of embarassing stuff, win big. So if you actually WANT to get money, why the hell would anyone actually lie? Not to mention that, to humor the whole idea that the lie detectors actually WORK, why would you lie in that effect? If they actually work, if you lie... the truth comes out and you don't get money. So why not just tell the truth in the first place?

Wasup, it's not about them trying to lie, the lie detector bit is to make sure they don't.

The challenge is not "Can you keep from lying so you win money?", it's "Will you honestly reveal this personal information to your friends and family to win money".

      what will they ask next?

Question: would you murder your husband and tell police it was an accident to collect the insurance money, if you KNEW you wouldn’t get caught?

      response: um....ooohh...(Stares blankly)....ummm....

It'll get old after a while. But I'm sure they can think of things...

Yeah, but my point is, the results are either A) you lie, and the truth is told and you lose all your money. B) you tell the truth, the truth is told, and you gain money.

I don't see why they would ever lie?

Mostly likely it's because they think they may have succeeded in fooling the polygraph test during the 50 questions and want to take a chance and lie (to save their marriage or what have you).

I for one, think this show is BRILLIANT.

Those of you who say that it is a terrible show have a point only in the spectacle... that is, selling themselves for money.

If you're one of those saying "way to go ruining your marriage" or "this is why I don't get married"... shame on you. I would be especially scared if you were married and disgusted that people would go on this show.

I am a firm believer in truth and honesty in relationships. I think that, along with miscommunication, dishonesty the top killer of a relationship... so... this show, in my eyes, eliminates faulty relationships quicker than they normally would. A "mercy killing" so to speak.

If you yourself can't answer ANY of these questions with your lover, there is a trust issue. If you are just dating, I suppose thats fine, if thats all you want in your relationship... the illusion of honesty (and no, not just honesty in words, but honesty in intention and desire).

If you're married or you want a full trust relationship, and can't answer these... you need to look over a few things, in my opinion. This girl in this video and this guy obviously don't belong together in the first place, so I think its fantastic that they got a nice clean ending, and ALMOST got paid for it.

I watched this episode (so I dunno how far the vid goes), the dumbass said she thought she was a "good person" or some bullshit and lied. I think thats a perfect ending ^_^

OK, now I get how they do it.

I liked how they ask her if she thinks she's a good person after she said all that shit about her husband and she answered yes then the voice is like 'False.' Owned on so many levels.
