Video Game Creation- Astralmon

Introduction:

Hey guys,

Myself and a class are trying to compete in a competition to make a game good enough to be viewed by nintendo.

We are sending them to a person who knows the head of nintendo, and the guy we send to picks his favorite game (along with other people that he judges with), and if he likes it enough he will present it to nintendo. Its not like nintendo will actually make the game, but it would be fun to see nintendo overlook our game to maybe comment on it in good or bad ways, more improvement the better.

I thought this would be appropriate to share with DreamViews as it deals with the classic Beyond Dreaming topic of "Astral Projection", just it has alot of weird and funny things that goes on that normally doesnt happen... lol.

Anyway..

I present to you: Astral Monsters, a.k.a. Astralmon for short.

Story:

You start off as a young boy who is just like every other kid. One day, your mother tells you to give a note to your neighbor to shut up their dog, and as you return back home from delivering the note, you see a funny looking shadow on the ground. You cant see anything that could possibly make the shadow, so you investigate. Upon stepping on the shadow, you immediatly feel dizzy and fall to the ground. You wake up in the same spot, except everything is darker and no body is outside. You think to yourself you must have just passed out, and now it is nearing the night. You head back home, and a little object flys past you, and hits the ground. You hear a sound of pain come from the object, and you realize its alive. You walk over to it, and you find a little round animal of sorts. You see it hurt its head really bad, and you take off your bandanna you were wearing and put it on the creature to conceal the bleeding. The creature floats up, and it thanks you, and flys away.

You then return home, but to your dismay you cant enter your house. You try everything, but the door wont open. You go check the windows, and everything thing seems to be at peace inside your home. Your mom is making supper and your dad is reading on a sofa. You yell at your mom to let you in, but she doesnt seem to hear you. You turn around, and suddenly there is a dark shadow again, this time though it is standing upright and it has a bluish tint to it.

You talk to the shadow, and ask what the heck it is doing here. The shadow explains that you are in the astral plane, and you are astral projecting. You havent ever heard this term, so you ask what it is. After you learn what astral projecting is, you ask how to reverse it. The shadow explains that you arent supposed to, that it has trapped you in the astral world for a purpose. He explains that you are the only one that the shadow knows that can defeat an evil force that will ruin the astral world, and eventually ruining the real world in the process. He calls you the chosen one, and calls upon you to save the astral world. You ask how can it be you, that is the one, and the shadow explains that you will learn at a later time, and leaves abruptly.

After this, you wonder what the heck to do. You walk upward, and you see the same little creature from before. This time though, he talks to you. He says that he is your "APP" (astral projecting pet). He has chosen you because of your kind deeds before. You ask what you are supposed to do, and he says he has no idea. The shadow returns, and gives you an instruction to go to a town, called stardust town. You dont have time to ask why, as the shadow leaves. You now must follow the tasks at hand, and with your APP you must save the astral world and the real world before everything gets destroyed into nothingness.

Features:

Online games and events, where you can compete to win several prizes that you can use to further your game. No one else can recieve these prizes.

Customization of your APP: You can make it whatever colors you want.

Online battaling: Battle friends with your APP, to see who can prevail.

Online Trading: As you play through the game, you will recieve objects that further your power. Ex. You might recieve a blue orb that powers up your Attack if you chose blue for your APP's headband. You can trade these with friends to maximize your APP.

Also note that some pictures are just drawings, still to be made into animations. They will be done in due time.

Want to be a part of Astralmon?

If you want to be a part of Astralmon, you can do the following:

If you want to be a "Spriter" please post your name and proof of work.

If you want to be a "Mapper" Please post your name and proof of work.

If you want to be a "In Game Character" Please post your name, your in game name, your in game APP (can be any animal or monster that you choose, [if it is a monster that i have no clue what it is, make sure to post a picture of it]). Also, please post a picture of what you would like to look like, and any story plots you would like to be involved in.

If you want to be a "idealist", simply post ideas you would like to be inputed in the game.

If you would like to be a "beta tester", please just ask.

Want to be anything else? Just post what you want to be, and if i need it, proof of work.

If you post, i will approve your offer in no less then 24 hours. If i disprove your offer for some reason, please do not flame the game or myself, as i really dont care lol.

Dictionary of Astralmon:

Comet - The creature that you start off with as your APP
Rouge - A creature that attacks you in the AP plane.
Spriter - A person who makes pictures of small objects to be used in games
Idealist - A person who creates ideas for a certain idea.
Mapper - A person who creates a town or world for a game.
In Game Character - Also known as AI, you can be a person inside the game.
Beta - A game that is released before it is completley finished, one that has many errors or glitches that Beta Testers see and fix.
Beta Tester - A person who plays a Beta to test for glitches and bugs.

I really see a lot of potential for this. For now you're just going to do a basic Flash version, right?

I guess I'm an Idealist, cause I have a few ideas, story wise(Only if you want, if it's already set in stone, nvm then.)

Yeah it sounds kinda cool. Sorta like a cross between pokemon and chrono cross, at least that's what it kinda sounds like to me. Is there anything in particular that you'd like ideas or suggesttions on. I don't really think i'd be much help with ideas unless i got a better feel of where you wanna go with the game.

I kinda got the idea this is like pokemon where you fight with your app, if it is like this:
Will you be able to have more then one app?
Would you be able to upgrade your app(i.e. leveling up and armor/weapons, etc.?
Would there be NPC's that join you on your journey and fight along side you?
Does the main character physically fight along side the app or does it control it from a distance(like in pokemon)?
What kind of leveling systems would you have?

Many more questions about the game , but i didn't want to leave a post that was full of too many questions.

My first reaction is that you're using a very obvious, old formula for the storyline. It reminds me of Twilight Princess in particular. I think it'd be cool to try to put a deeper meaning into the story line, or like crazy twists or something, rather than leaving it plain like that.

In any case though, it's a formula that tends to work, so I think there's potential.

Wow, thanks everyone for all of the great advice. I just got home from a 4 hour car drive, so i am heading to bed, but i will update this tomorrow wtih the people who are interested.

@ Elis: No, it is not flash. It is built in RPG Maker XP.. but if that is what you consider flash i appologize lol.

@ Ickarus:

1. Will you be able to have more then one app?
2. Would you be able to upgrade your app(i.e. leveling up and armor/weapons, etc.?
3. Would there be NPC's that join you on your journey and fight along side you?

1. That is till to be decided. For now, only one will be available, but you will be able to "morph" it into different forms. Not to the extreme, but in general.

2. Yeah, you will be able to. Leveling is in A 5., but armor/weapons for the APP are kinda far fetched. Because, in the Astral World, there is nothing really that you can use as "weapons" lol. But, there is collectable gems you can collect to upgrade a certain thing, such as Attack Strength, Energy, HP, etc.

3. NPC's are still debatable also. I can make it so people follow you around like in pokemon, but i wouldnt want to copy them too much. Maybe follow you around for certain areas, but its again still to be decided.

4. The main char does not fight, but once again that is being debated. It is something we all want it to do, but we dont want the APP to be useless also.

5. Leveling systems are from 1 - 50. Its not as easy to get to the highest level like in pokemon, though. But that is a surprise to be presented when you play the game.

@ Orshy: Thanks for the cool logo. I want to stick with the one i have at the moment for the game, since i have many logos made with that style, and i also like the colors. Yours however, i can use on the website if you wouldnt mind. It is very clear, and very well made. Good job, and thanks.

@ Mes: Yeah, it is the basic story line as of the moment. We havent really givin much thought to what is beyond the story part of the introduction post, but im sure we can implement any kind of twist and turn that is possible.

That's what I was thinking.
Make the shadow guy evil. He kidnapped the kid and a few other kids, make it squad based and you all have to work together to help him take over the astral world or he'll kill each of their best friends or something. They finally get a chance to escape and they do, and that's the last level.

And no, RPG Maker isn't flash, it's a lot better lol.

Yeah, RMXP is pretty nice. It lets you do alot of things, and its not that expensive either.

That plot is cool, but to give the story a good start the shadow has to be somewhat good. As you go through the story you will find another shadow that is red tint, and it is the evil one. Then blah idk what happens after that but the story is coming together about as fast as the game itself is. So we dont have to wory about it.

I am interested in being a beta tester, idealist, and AI. Early on in the game, I think there needs to be something that'll come into the storyline every now and then. Maybe some sort of a super-powerful rouge type thing. I'll submit the other info later, I'm too lazy right now, =p.

Astralmon is a very very silly name. Poke'mon, Digi'mon. Yes, I do know that mon is short for monster, but please don't use MON. Think of something a tad bit more creative.

That may be, but for the time being, nintedo does like "mon", and that is why we had to use it lol. Astral was the only thing we had a real say in. If we get accepted for the review, then after we get it we can always change the name.

Yeah, we do. It is very time consuming, we only have about 5 minutes of play time at the moment. After that all you do is run around in circles doing nothing. But yes, this is taking a really long time.
