What the **** Valve?

Edit: Even if you don't play games or stuff like that, please tell me what you think of the characters and how they look. Try picturing them in a zombie apocalypse.

For anyone who was watching E3 and saw the Left 4 Dead part of it, you'd see some new concept art for the new character designs that, in my opinion and many others, look like utter crap.

Compare...

Names from left to right: Louis, Francis, Zoey, Bill
The old, good looking models:

The new crappy looking models.

These new characters look stupid and stereotypical.

For anyone who is waiting for Left 4 Dead, and has not seen this, tell me, what do you think about these new characters?

If anything, Louis is the only good looking one but he looks way too clean.

So far it seems most of us like the new black guy model. It could use some more work but it does look good.

Why do I get the impression of "Barack Obama - Action mode" with the black guy model? Maybe it's the shirt and tie.

Everything else is somewhat... lacking, to phrase it more generously.

Some small news though, the reason their changing the way the survivors look is so that they stand out more from the infected.

That's what I thought. I like the new design a lot better. The characters look very distinct and unique, more mature and less comicish. Why does everybody think that games need comic graphics? They don't.

I like the new designs better. They look more dynamic and dissimilar from each other than the old models, the old designs look a bit boring.

The old designs look like a group of people you'd expect to see in an apocolyptic zombie uprising: dirty, beat-up clothing, the guys haven't had a shave in a long time, etc.

The lower ones look like rejects from Scooby Doo's gang.

Honestly I don't see the big deal here, IDC much about the players im going to be controlling, I'm more concerned with how the zombies will turn out, theres a girl in this game too? It'll be fun playing as a girl whooping zombie ass, yay!

Man. I really don't mind it though. I'm a huge zombie shooter fan, so I really don't care what the characters look like. I've been waiting for this game since they closed the Servers on Resident evil Outbreak.
Not only that, the gameplay looks awesome. So I guess that makes up for character design for me.

I was under that impression that these were just other models that could be played as along with the original ones. Kinda like Counter Strike:Source where there are 4 skins to choose from for each side.

Ironically, Wikipedia says this:
