      To Kill a Mockingbird.

You have probably been forced to read this if you have a high school education.

Did you enjoy it? Did you not enjoy it? What was good or bad about it?

I'm about an hour into it, which is only about 50-60 pages for me, when I enjoy a book I try to read it slowly since it is more pleasurable and easier to understand that way.

      It is only 374 pages.

Its an alright book, and i suggest watching the movie after you read it. But tbh I wouldent have read it if i wasn't made to in school.

It was a well-made book, i know that much, but it wasnt my type of book.

It's kind of like Mozart or Beethoven - I'm in no position to say that their music was crap, (even though i hate it), because they are classics, which took a lot of effort.

Still i am glad i read Mockingbird, i've seen a few funny spoofs or jokes of it on TV a few times =P. I also enjoyed some of the 'how a real man should act' parts, and its a good ending too.

EDIT: I also noticed somewhere that you said your playing Perfect World. I play it from time to time so if your up for a little run about (and your on the oracle server) let me know =]

It's a let down, it gave me no good advice on actually killing mockingbirds

Seriously though, it's a great book. I love it, and I think that you'll enjoy it as well.

Everything sucks when it gets the school treatment.

      Otherwise, it's a good story.

I had to read it last year ( i was in 9th grade). I liked it.
Why can’t life be like in the fairy tales? It’s always happily ever after, and entirely black and white. There are no unresolved characters because, in the end, the bad guy is defeated and the hero and heroine live happily ever after.

      I actually enjoyed the book.

But other books are more relatable to my life.

I think a lot of people would like books better if they weren't forced to read them. But in all honesty, while it was a good book (good as in put together well, had a good moral to it, stuff like that) it's not the kind of book I would read just because I want to. I guess some parts were interesting, but to me, if it weren't so praised and talked about in school, it would have been a very forgettable book. But obviously that's just me, since no one else seems to find it forgettable

Shit you guys play perfect world??!! Hit me up! I just started, and it's pretty good... better than a lot of free MMO's out there.

Anyway, yeah, I had to read it Freshman year. I didn't really enjoy it, I know it's a classic and all, but I couldn't really get into it. It just seemed too disconnected. My teacher tended to over analyze everything. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I read it just as a book, and not forced to extract 'the hidden meaning' from every sentence.

Some teachers pull the analyzation thing off... Mr. Brown pulled it off with The Great Gatsby. Most just get annoying, though, yeah.

Wow... Good work belittling one of the most recognized pieces of American Literature written in the past fifty years.

Well... I've never quiet heard it put that way, but yes It's much more about racial tension in the deep south though

Ditto. I think the lessons are good. But I already abide by those lessons and live my life that way, so I had nothing to 'learn' (except about albinos and rabies) and it was boring as hell. Not as bad as Rolling Thunder Hear my Cry or whatever, though. God I hated 9th grade english...

Now that I'm older, if I chose to read it I'd probably appreciate more. I honestly do not remember a lot of the details. Nearly every book I've been forced to read and interpret I've hated That same year they tried to make us read Great Expectations... it was pure hell. I reread it this past summer and loved it, though. Maybe I'll have to pick up a copy of Mockingbird.

I read it, I thought it was great. Its a shame Harper Lee didn't write anymore novels.
