I didn't say everyone was wrong, I just said, I've played both systems quite a bit, all my friends own 360's except like one or two, but I have a PS3, and in my opinion, they play exactly the same. I never said my opinion was completely right, I'm just saying, regardless of what everyone has told me, I find virtually no difference in the two whatsoever.
Why does this read like a Sony Press Release than an honest opinion?
Because you read it wrong, I guess. All I was saying there, was the features of the PS3, since those are good things to look at when thinking about buying one. Makes sense, doesn't it? It wasn't even opinionated, it was just facts of the systems details.
You can stream and download movies from Xbox Live, store pictures, music, games, etc on it, which you fail to mention. Xbox Live also has an integrated friends list; the PSN friends list has constantly been one of the flaws with the service because it makes organising games such a pain.
I didn't say you couldn't download movies from XBL, I just wasn't aware of it. The store on the Xbox isn't something I use generally, since I don't own one, and only see it when my friends open it up. Hence, I fail to mention it, because I don't know everything about it, and only go by what my friends have shown/told me about it, and I'd rather not say something about it if I don't know anything about it, which is why I stuck to talking mostly about the PS3. Also, the PSN was flawed at first, now it works perfectly, and it's easy as hell to organize a game, you just invite people to it. Remember that the 360 was also out a year before the PS3, therefore had a long time to work out it's bugs before the PS3 came along. Let's not forget that these bugs are still not fully worked out (RROD). I had a friend who went through eight 360's after they had first came out, because they kept catching fire.
Overall, for your son, I would suggest a 360. For your daughter, the Wii is better suited; the 360 and PS3 are not particularly amazing for casual gamers (though there are quite a few xbox live arcade titles available that may suit her).
The only feature the PS3 has over the Xbox 360 here is internet access, which is of varying use.
Very useful for me, I use it every day.
Lying doesn't make something true; you do not need to be a gold member to download content from Xbox Live. There is no such thing as a platinum membership. The only difference between "gold" and "silver" is that some content is available for a few days earlier for those who pay for the service, gold users can use video chat if they want, and gold users can play online multiplayer.
Sorry, I meant silver and gold, not gold and platinum. Names don't change the fact that you still need to pay for them, and that's no lie. Just because I mixed up some names doesn't change anything I said.
Nor is it an issue on the 360 ...
I didn't say it was an issue on the 360, I don't know why you assume I'm implying it is one. I'm simply listing the features of the PS3, and this was one of them. Enough people have already talked about the 360, I didn't feel I needed to say anything more about it.
You can hold whatever opinion you want, but blatant lies and distortion of the facts means people should be wary of listening to you. You also use highly misleading phrases.
I see no lies, I just messed up a name. Distortion of what facts, all I did was list the PS3 things that I know about, and what it has overall. Highly misleading phrases is subjective, you make it sound like I put time into making a propaganda campaign or something for this, I just said how I feel about them from what I know. As well as the fact that all the Xbox players I know also wish they had gotten a PS3, tells me something. The only thing that makes me want a 360 is Fable and the new Banjo, which looks like balls, but I'd like to play it anyway.
Overall, as I've said before and I'll say again, both systems are great. They're on virtually equivalent ground, they have most of the same games. The only thing that did it for me, was the better exclusives for PS3, the internet, and the overall media center feeling of the system, and less technical problems to worry about.
Anyway, regardless, I hope your kids enjoy your present. You can't really go wrong either way, I'm sure they'll be thrilled with their 360's, it's still a great system.
Also, I'll be sure to look into those games you were talking about on the last page, I love tower defense games.
