If you wanted to up Mariah, post some of her older stuff. The "new" Mariah is nowhere near as good as she used to be.

The Emotions album.
And pretty much everything around that era.

That was Mariah in her prime. I can't help but feel anything but disappointment with all of her new stuff. It's nothing like the Mariah I know and love.

I love the old Mariah, but some of her newer songs are good too.

Does this have anything to do with the feud between Eminem and Mariah?

She's most certainly a better singer, hell. But stylistically she doesn't sound any different. Compared to, say, Joni Mitchell (shown before), Kate Bush (here), or even Joanna Newsom (here, and she might not be your cup of tea) she's really quite boring.

Doesn't sound any different???? Give me some of what you're smoking! Whatever it is, it has your hearing all screwed up. That's like putting Jessica Simpson up against Teena Marie. No comparison whatsoever.

That's still not even close to true. Technically she's a better singer. She has a higher range, she has more complicated runs. She has more solid tone, whether she is singing in a light, airy voice, or really belting it out with a scream.

Christina is an actual, talented singer. Britney and Jessica (et al) are just showgirls. They don't sing complicated songs because they simply aren't good enough. The only reason they are often compared is because they are young girls of the same era, who sing somewhat in the same genre. There's nothing similar about their singing ability, at all - even stylistically.

Though if you know of a good example, please post it so we can compare.

Maybe I'm using the wrong words. I said earlier on she was a much better singer technically, and that's because she damn well is. But the vocal performance in the original post seemed like I'd heard it before, basically. Good, but not really having much of an effect on me.

I'm also getting a lot closer to arguing about things I don't really know about her, and that's stupid for everybody. So please, recommend me an album of hers that you feel showcases her talents the best. I will go listen to it for a while, see what my opinion is like then, and come back to this thread.

I know much less about her full albums, than I do just individual performances I have seen her do. After work, I might try to search for a few of the ones that stand out to me, personally. I haven't followed everything she's done. I have just been really impressed with the bit that I have seen.

Here's one for now, though. I've always loved this song, and she nailed it.


I'd love to see Britney or Jessica do that.
