It's one of those things that any tripper could tell you, but I'm very glad that the scientific community is opening its eyes a bit more. It sounds hopeful for future work as well

As for the 1/3 having bad trips, i think there would be less chance of that had they actually known when they were taking the silly cybin. Not to mention that previous experience with psychedelics or a choice of setting might have also significantly reduced that margin.

Results gained by people with absolutely no psychadelic experiences are only the threshold of the experience's potential. Shit, I had a couple bad trips, just sitting around in a house, when I first started "experimenting." After a while, I was able to spend a day at Islands of Adventure with 100,000+ people, completely calm (...if you don't count the sporadic bursts of uncontrollable laughter while being a complete idiot with my friends) and just enjoying the experience: A day that ranks right up there somewhere between the birth of my kid, and finding $900 at a water-park when I was like 14 years old. Haha.)

I sure as hell hope they continue with the work they're doin. The first step to de-demonizing something (that probably shouldn't be demonized) is to step up to it and confront it to find out it's strengths and weaknesses, and dispel its myths.

good to know the research on psychedelics isn't completely dead.

as a seasoned psychonaut, i can recall only a few bad trips out of hundreds. respect and preparation eliminates all negativity IMO.

So, is that just the normal hallucinogenic mushrooms? I'm not too well versed on the stuff, but I can't say I'm not intrigued.

Salvia is interesting, but apparently you have to have a massive dosage for it to have the hallucinogenic effect.

I had an eigth of shrooms last night and it totally sucked. They must not have been very good because I probably would have had more fun just drinking. Hardly any trip at all, and I had to deal with a girl who was super bipolar who was tripping, as well as my friend who gave himself a concussion while tripping because he had to prove that he could hit his head on the ceiling harder than my other friend could. I don't think a single good trip came out of that whole quarter we bought

you're right O, having someone sit on a couch and wonder whether or not they'd just eaten shrooms, when said person has no prior experience, can only result in a low-level trip, if anything. It may be a very well controlled experiment, but I guarentee that you would get much more positive results if you took those same people out into the woods, gave them all shrooms, and let them go on an introspective journey through nature. I dno why, but being in the woods makes everything better when I'm tripping. wayyyy better

I've yet to try a hallucinagen, maybe when the shrooms come up this year I'll try and get some. I do know that our botanic gardens here in Adelaide has a few Angel's Trumpet trees, and I was thinking of trying them. After looking it up on trusty old erowid, I decided not to or at least not until I've had experience with milder hallucinagens. The reports of people going crazy and on a violent rampage from the stuff kind of makes me a little wary.

yeah, def. And hopefully some dumbass won't smoke salvia on the highway and kill himself so they won't have an excuse to.

i've never tried hallucinogens. but i hope to someday. can someone tell me the major differences ( or minor differences) between shrooms , Lsd and Mescaline. thanks

potency, and the combinations of effects are different. I've never tried mesc but I think shrooms would be the best place to start.

shrooms will cause minor hallucinations and lots of distortions. Increased sensitivity to light, colors seem brighter. Auras around some objects, especially lights. Most people tend to laugh very hard, others gain a lasting positive outlook on life, others get terrified and revisit their most painful memories. However, In a safe setting and with a good mindset, a bad trip can be prevented or cured. Have someone you know and trust there to reassure you.

lsd is a very powerful hallucinogen. Expect to trip all day. The hallucinations will come and go periodically, and each time they'll be more powerful until you reach the 'peak,' after which you'll start to come down. Lots of patterns and fractals, lots of weird distortions akin to those optical illusions that make things move around after you look away from them. Both of these can cause emotional volatility. Choose a sitter who won't try to piss you off while you're tripping, and someone who will listen to your requests as well. You can swing between poles of emotion quickly if something good or bad happens, so it's important to be ready for that and capable of shaking a bad mood. People with bipolar should be careful, starting with low doses.

I've never tried mescaline but I think it might be somewhere in between the two as far as potency. Just talk to someone you know who does this type of thing and they'll probably be able to help you out.

Yeah I read this article already. Great to hear folks of the FDA are becomming more openminded to the Magical Mushroom. And as for Bad trips: The fear comes from yourself: it's not induced by the Psychedelic drug which is often speculated. If you eat mushrooms you'll simply start feeling as wierd as you have never felt before: HOW YOU REACT IT determines wether it is gunna be a magical dreamlike experience or more a terrifying daytime nightmare. Some people enjoy and see the great potential of Altered Perception, while others just think it's ''hella freaky shit'' . I've had only 1 bad Mushroom trip ( my1st) and the insight gained from that trip taught me never to struggle or fear the severe Altered Mushroom state of Mind and just ''Flow with it'' Instead and eversince my Mushroom trips have been nothing but Pleasant magic. The next Psychedelic I'm going to try is DMT. A very very powerfull immersive one that, when smoked, peaks after 30 minutes and is all over after an hour (Maximum) (a psychedelic substance found in natural human metabolism and in many plants too)

I can hardly try describing my Mushroom experiences but all of them gave me an insight into life: Seen from another perspective. And it gives me a great edge. Mushrooms are a great way of self Exploration since a deeper layer of conciousness comes out in you. This is why it is often said to be ''dreamy''. The altered perception is in my opinion not just your Perception being seriously Messed up, but the Perception rearranged and taken to a different perspective.
It gives you such insights where you think ''hey I've never seen it that way before''.

Hard to explain exactly how, but Psychedelics are defenitely Insightfull in a way it feels as though you've got an edge in the game of life knowing what you now know.


But overal people are very narrowminded and anything that is just straightout Bizarre and Strange is considered ''dangerious''. It's Mass-Xenophelia. The same Ignorance from which Racism arose ( Strange and Weird Different Cultures and people ) and it is the root of alot of more evil in this world.

If only people in general would be more openminded.

I've never heard of that happening, but then again ive only known a handfull of people that were allergic to pennicillin, and half of them were too afraid of life to even try smoking pot, never mind heavy psychedelics. Have you tried searching for it online?

No it's not the same type of Fungus: You don't happen to get all Sick and have seizures after having eaten Champignons on a pizza for instance? These and more ''normal'' mushrooms people add to their food don't trigger an allergic reaction don't they? Well then it should be no problem Eating Magic Mushrooms: they are the same kind of fungus: Fruit + they contain Psilocybin and Psilocyn.And I have never heard of Psilocybin allergy
