      England vs Bahrain

I'm not entirely sure which country it was, but a friend of mine is a pilot and he was telling a story the other day of how he was on a flight to Bahrain or a country similar (in location and religion is what I mean) and that because it's illegal to drink in the country, they confiscate any alcohol you take with you (which is fine), but they were also confiscating people's bibles (Christian bibles) and those people don't get them back.

That's a bit wrong I think, can you imagin if England customs stopped people from bringing turbans or their Qhuran into the country? There'd be an outcry.

Also, while I'm on the subject, someone told me that where they worked in London, the Christmas party had Halaal turkey. Halaal turkey? WTF???

Christmas is a Christian celebration, and England is a Christian country. Why on Earth should they have to make their own religious holidays cater for everyone else? I think it's complete bollocks. I can understand allowing for all religions and what not, but halaal Christmas? It's f*cking madness!!!!

What do other people think about it?

yeah i know what you mean, in todays world everyone is to afriad to hold their own beliefes incase they upset anyone else and it leads to violence. ;m all for racial and religious inclusion and equality but when OUR country has to change its traditions to cater for others which chose to come here, then things have gone to far in my opinion.

*Pictures Halaal turkey*" Dude why dont we just tell them its Halaal, they wont know" " shhhhut up..."

Oh a question on Halaal meat for anyone that eats it, what is it about the way of killing the animal( slit throat) that makes it holy? I know a prayer is said as well, but is it really necessary, you can eat non Halaal meat can't you?

Also how does a butcher get a Halaal licence, surely i could slit a chickens throat and say your prayer to make it Halaal, is there another requirement?

The English government is too afraid of being called rascist it's just sad. They actually planned on banning Christmas lights in some areas of London because of the majority of religions.

There was also a partition on banning the Christmas lights in my home town, but that didn't work out. Also Coca-Cola adverts stopped because it had Father Christmas in it.

I don't think the government should be afraid to do Christian things as England is a Christian nation, hence the Church of England.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks it's messed up!

About coca cola ads, there was an advert showing here dunno where else, where a guy puts a coin in a coldrink dispensor machine and inside it theres this world with little creatures making the coke, and in one scene they push a snowman through a fan so that his snowy cold flakes make the coke cold, and people wrote in to complain because the snowman was "killed". I think it's stupid.

      But anyway

Heh, soon we'll have all countries turning completely neutral, without any specific traits of traditions and all named the same: Neutralandia.
Then, eventually, religion will also fall and every person will become completely objective. Then, not far in the future, people will be administered special substances that prevent emotions.

Aaah, the world of the future...

I missed them too, nothing like having the trains go by with Father Christmas on the back lighting up the street, with the tune "Holidays are coming" like the sound of a train.

Okay okay I disagree with the overly politically correct nature of society just as much as the next man. But what is wrong with halal turkey, it tasts the same. So if it makes some people happy and is of no harm to others lets not swing to the other extrmeme. I dont see whats wrong with halal turkey.

And seriously, political correctness damages us more than everyday english people. We dont want christmas lights banned, I attended mosque until up to 2 years ago and hands up I can say there is not one perosn there who is offended by father christmas, piggy banks, or christmas lights. yes it is ridiculous, but the common idea is that we want these thigns we dont. When they were tlking there shit about christmas lgihts it was a muslim Mp who came forward and said, "this is balls".

And actually Muslims revere Jesus, of all the prophets in the Qu'ran Jesus is the msot quoted. They beleive in his miraculous birth, they believe in his direct link with God, they bleieve that he was the Messiah the Jews ahd been waiting for. Actually the historical differences with Muslims and Jews stem partly from this. So actually I see nothing wrong with having halal turkey at christmas.

Finally dont get me wrong, I stronlgly beleive in "I disagree with what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it." I despise poltical correctness. All i'm saying is elts not take the opposition to the un-warranted extreme.

MY view on political correctness: Some asshats go too far with their anti-groups and then people on the other end who are on the other end and are touchy react. Then the 99.9% of other people have to live with crappy restrictions and such.

Oh what's that? Don't tell me England is starting to feel threatened by other cultures? Damn... yeah it kind of sucks when you feel that your culture is being swamped by outsiders and you're forced into customs that you disagree with. Kind of like what happened to the indigenous Australians after British colonisation of Australia... or the colonisation of South Africa, Ehtiopia, North America, Canada, India, New Zealand, Jamaica, Bermuda, Barbados, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaya, Ejypt, Boer Republics...

At least you can choose to ignore it, rather than being sold as a slave.

Point taken, and very true. But that was then, and this is now (don't even get me started on slavery) and this hasn't got anything to do with colonisation or cultures threatening. This has got to do with the lame assedness of the English government, leadership or whoever it is that wants halaal christmas turkey. How many halaaly people celebrate christmas? So why do they want halaaly turkey? Will they make christian turbans? Or "Jesus is the messiah" yumulkas? No, so why halaal turkey?

Exactly, it all goes to extremes.

It's not halaal turkey itself, I'm sure it tastes fine. In fact, I don't even like turkey that much. But it's the principle itself, of halaal christmas turkey. It's like having kosher bacon.

Hmm I see where you're coming from there. I'd say that the burden of stupidity would be on whichever company is trying to sell these halaal 'christmas' turkeys. Having a halaal turkey itself isn't contradictory as halaal is simply the way the animal is slaughtered - it has to have its throat cut and a prayer said during the process. A lot of the cattle from our farm are slaughtered halaal way to be shipped to arab countries.

A lot of it is simply the product of globalisation. Whereas in the past most cultural change/assimilation came from invasion etc, now it is a cultural thing. The world is a smaller place, and the borders of a state no longer are the borders of a nation - people can travel more freely, money travels more freely, companies operate globally, and cultures can no longer be defined by such stark degrees. When seperate cultures and ideas come into contact and mix then there's going to be some form of conflict. I think that in the end it is a good thing in a very big way. Today I can go down the street and order takeaway chineese, nepalese, mexican, italian pizza, greek yiros to such an extent that it now doesn't seem like I'm eating something 'foriegn'... half of my cooking is either stir-fry or middle-eastern curry. A century ago that sort of thing would be unthinkable in Australia - it would be boring roast or nothing.

The celebration of Christmas in the gift-giving form was mainly a German thing. The image of santa in a red, white and black suit was created by the Coca-Cola company. Traditions and ideas come and go gradually and contain a mix of many cutural influences. Consider the huge influence latin has had on the english language, due in part to the Roman invasion of Britain back in the day.

So yeah, halaal christmas turkey i'd say is due to the ignorance of the company. They probably sell many christmas turkeys and decided to sell some halaal ones too, neglecting to drop the world 'christmas.' worse things have happened.
