what? I called out his hypocrisy. sorry
So what you did was pointless. Since when does hypocrisy make the statement untrue? I am sure he could do without an Xbox for crying out loud, especially if he got his wish to end the current state of things.

That's simply your biology instilling you with the need to both survive and excel. From a hunter/gatherer standpoint, it's your body's way of ensuring you continually try to ascend higher on the food chain and thereby strengthen your own gene pool.

If you, individually, were "meant for something", what does that say about the megathousands of helpless, starving people in the world who will not, cannot, ever amount to anything, by virtue of their birth? If we feel we are meant for something then this implies someone or something is navigating us into that direction. What a selfish bunch these omnipotent Fates must be if they have something planned for you but conveniently nothing but rapid death and decay for the untold millions in third world nations. A lot of times I hear born-again Christians going on about how "God" has put them on this Earth for a reason, that "He" has a specific role for them in mind. What a self-centered thing to believe. This line of thinking says that destinty has something in store for you (you in general, not you the poster) and diddly squat for more than half the rest of the world. What makes you (again, you in general) think you're superior to these people? Nothing. You were simply born into a privelaged society which affords you things like the internet.

Everyone has their own niche, a place which suits them best. That's simply your personality falling into place. It has nothing to do with what we're "meant" to do; it has everything to do with what we're good at doing.

Sometimes the simplest answers are the best. What's the meaning to life? The meaning to life is life itself.
Those who believe in existence are stupid like cattle. But those who believe in non-existence are even worse.

I dont really approve of the consumerist society. I dont really spend money. I dont have that many desires for objects. (I'm pretty much content with an xbox and an ipod)
dude you are completely right. He is happy witout the comsumerist society, all he has are two things completely 100% the result of the comsumerist society, yah but other than that, he doesn't approve of it at all. He makes a very strong argument.

The real question should be what do you want to do? What is it that you think your meant to do? It sounds like you have an idea. If you know what you want to do and are just not sure of yourself, I say just do it and don't look back.

If its just a vague feeling and you have no idea what you what to do, then your question should be, "What do I want to do?"

Everyone is put here for a reason and your reason may very well be to just take up space. Luckly you get say in it.

Haha, you just lost the argument. You can't say you don't approve of consumerism, but are happy with 'just' and Xbox and an iPod. Those things have more marketing and technology in them than someone from 1900 would have ever seen in his Entire life.

Yes you can. He doesn't like consumerism, but obviously he doesn't fully understand the entire scope of the situation with such a statement. I cannot speak for him, but I get the impression that he really would not mind going without such things (only because that is how I am, but yes I may be very wrong). Futhermore, the "argument" was about his intention: all he did was make fun of the guy's lack of seeing the big picture, at the same time exposing the same in himself. Calling out someone's hypocrisy has no effect other than to insult. There are very few consistent people in this world. They say "I love animals" and then buy from companies that experiment on them. This does not mean that they don't love animals; they are just not totally informed. Just one example of thousands.

He is probably too young to fully understand what he hates about this world yet anyhow.

Consumerism is awesome. What a whole generation of Americans has done with consumerism is awful. Today's teenagers are the most shallow, close minded people because posessions often dictate social status. I also have a distinct feeling this has been happening for generations.
      Still can't WILD........
