      Anti-Sex

I'll start things off by saying I don't get why people view sex between teens and unmarried adults in such a negative way.

Here at my high school, just like every other high school, we have health class. It is mandatory for all students, and though I myself have not been through the course as of yet, I have heard several stories of health class and how it operates. Apparently, a big part of it is just a bunch of anti-sex scare tactics. About the possible things that can happen from having various types of sex. It is my understanding that it is less "Use protection" and more "Don't do it, cause if you do, bad things will happen".

Another thing, I saw a TV ad once with kids all saying to the camera, "Tell me to wait to have sex" and a few other lines of that nature. This ad was geared toward motivating parents to talk to their kids about waiting to have sex.

Correct me if I am wrong as I am relying completely off memory here, but here in the U.S., in most of our states the age for consensual sex is 17. I understand why there needs to be an age limit for consensual sex, but our bodies are geared to have sex at an even younger age.

I don't understand how all this anti-sex rhetoric can override logic and reasoning. What I mean is, they should encourage protection instead of abstention. I speak from experience, my peers aren't listening to that other bullshit. For the most part kids around here are smart and use protection, but the teen pregnancy statistics are startling.

      Thoughts?

I think a lot of teens don't quite get the point that heterosexual sex can cause pregnancy. They know it as a fact, but they are often not at a high enough level of awareness of it. It is something they need to really think about in vivid detail.

Condoms are not fool proof. If they were, I would say teens should have at it and just wear condoms. But that is not enough of a guarantee. A lot of guys get screwed in the head mentally when a girl they got pregnant has an abortion, and it is all up to the girl whether she even has one. If she does not, they have a baby to deal with. That is heavy duty stuff for a teenager. That message needs to be made clear. However, on top of that, the message should be that if they are going to take that risk and have sex any way, they need to use protection.
      You are dreaming right now.

Perhaps if we encouraged contraception more, the more potent contraception would be used perhaps by females at a younger age.

Omg Eagle, you are absolutely right!!

I think parents and teachers think that if kids learn about contraception and stuff, then they will have a higher chance of going out and having sex. Studies have shown that this is not the case. In fact, it's the kids who know next to nothing about sex who are having all of it.

Condoms are way more effective than most people realize. The fact of the matter is that people just don't use them, or they don't use them regularly, or they don't know where to get them, or they feel embarrassed asking their partner to comply, etc etc etc.

On top of condoms, there are SO many other ways that people can be extremely protected during sex. It's really sad how little the general public, especially teenagers, know about this. The U.S. has the highest rate of teen pregnancy in the world, and our teens know the least about sex and contraception in the world as well. Hmmm, am I the only one who sees a connection here or what?

The flip side is, what will this do to reproductive development as the ages for contraception get younger and younger?

The irony is, one day, infertility may become a major problem and such thoughts will be viewed by later generations with grief and anger.

What the heck are you talking about. You mean menarche and genarche? If so, then that has been attributed to better nutrition and better health care treatment. What's the problem?
