I don't think they would have believed in the ultimate outcome if they had been told about the transition phase, which is exactly what is causing so much doubt now.
That explains a lot. I guess the ultimate outcome would be a bit hard for most people to believe if they were aware of the transition phase. Of course, not telling the people about the transition phase made them very skeptical about the motives behind the war and made it a near certainty that they will choose to end it by voting for an anti-war president.

If the administration were aware of this, how do you think this affects the ultimate outcome? If they knew, they must have planned for it and the war will end well even if the next president withdraws. If they didn't, they didn't plan for it and the war will end badly (badly as defined by the outcome that was sought from the beginning). If they knew, but planned for the public to support the war anyway, then one could only conclude that their strategy is/was misguided, and the war will end badly.

It's war. It will end badly.
If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

They most likely planned on getting the necessary work done by the time a new president takes office or else figured that the U.S. would not elect an anti-war president when it is so obvious that our withdrawal at the wrong time would be a disaster. I really think McCain is going to be the next president any way. Obama is finished, and Hillary never had a chance in the first place.

That is what I think happened, but I don't think we are going to pull out until the new government is really ready for us to do it. There will still be chaos even after we pull out, but the new government should be ready then. The stabilization of Iraq will happen gradually over time even after the occupation is over.
How do you know you are not dreaming right now?
