Higher mpgs for cars will boost our economy. The reason american auto manufactures are dying is because it's illegal to sell them over seas, they don't meet international mpg standards. It's not a power thing because ferraris meet the standards, and it's not a technology thing because toyota has cars that get nearly 60mpg.

A few things Australia is undertaking to go green:

- There are wind farms all over Australia's coast (and they look very pretty on long scenic drives, I don't know why people hate them)
- Solar panels for your home have been subsidised by the government (about $7,000 - not much, but its a start).
- Every state with a water shortage (so pretty much all of them) are investing BILLIONS in salt-water electrolysis to create fresh drinking water for our citizens. This will take pressure off of the dying river murray and save a huge eco-system from collapse in the next 10 years.
- There are massive solar farms being constructed in the Outback in the desert that will be able to power hundreds of thousands of homes.
- The 'solar tower' technology of Enviro-Emission Ltd will be built here in South Australia in the next 8 years, providing energy for half the state, if not more depending on how big we build it. Its basically a giant green house with a 1km high chimney in the centre full of turbines and a greenhouse-like base over 5km in area. The hot air rises up the tower (turning the turbines) and creates an updraft convection current.
- There is a geological formation under South Australia called the Cooper Basin, the worlds most perfect site for geo-thermal energy creation. It has the hottest rocks in the world at acceptable drilling depths that are no where near volcanoes. Initial estimates say that there is enough heat energy in the Cooper Basin to power the whole of Australia for the next 6000 years.

The smartest thing we did was to kick our conservative government out of office in the last election. Every last one of them were global warming deniers (man made OR otherwise).

Sounds good, we're kicking out conservative leadership out in January.

lets get this straight, your saying ron paul created the no child left behind act? if you think that's true then im sorry your wrong.

hillary will bring 50,000 home and keep 50,000 there permanently, that doesn't sound much like bringing the troops home to me.

Ron Paul would not only bring EVERY single troop home from iraq, but from every other country too.

and ron paul isn't against higher fuel effeciency, he wants the free market to decide, not the incompetent government.

Get your facts straight.

Vocally anti-abortion
Encroaching on Church v. State
Tax cuts for the wealthy
Major cuts to arts programs
Major funding additions to military
Anti-environment

By the way, I'm pretty familiar with changes to the Republican party... I've been voting since before you were born. I would say nice try trying to put Paul's thoughts into your own words, but you failed miserably in that regard.

There's no reason at all to lock this thread?? You can't just request that because you don't like what people are saying. However you should really take this kind of discussion somewhere else because it's ceased to have much to do with the thread.

Also, please learn to differentiate between the words your and you're. I'm not being funny, it just looks a bit silly; 'your' means 'the thing that belongs to you'. 'You're' is shorthand for 'you are'.

I assume you mean Ron Paul, though he is a Libertarian, not a Republican. He only ran on the Republican ticket. Libertarians have very little in common with Republicans.

You implied I didn't know what Liberal meant, so I offered some evidence that I had long known. I'm sorry if it makes you feel smaller to be young... not my fault.

Being older obviously doesn't mean wiser, but it certainly is where the safe money is. That is, unless you think most people get stupider with age. I certainly hope you intend to increase your knowledge as you get older, as I certainly have. But you're correct... 30 years ago I was still smarter than you are now, so that does show young people can know what they're talking about.
