      The Greatest Thing

This question, quite simple, is sure to illicit *great* responses.

What is the greatest thing you have ever done?

What is the greatest thing you could possibly do?

So, questionS, answer the questions, if it pleases you, you might find the desire to define "greatest."

That is for you to decide, I cannot declare a great for, you must give it your own meaning, but make sure it means something.

Heh, everyone will probably find this a lame response, but I can't say I've had any one peak experience so much as I've come to experience peak more and more of the time.

The greatest thing I could hope to do is become a living embodiment of compassionate clarity, such that people around me are able to live with greater ease.
If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

Well ive probably completely misjudged the purpose of the thread but the "greatest" thing i ever did was work in Gambia on the east coast of Africa, we took over 34 crates of school supplys which we had collected through donations and dished them between 6 of the poorest schools. We then worked in two of the schools for 3 months as teaching assistants, this job could mean anything from actually leading a class to scrubbing the toilets. The school i worked in had 64 children between 2 classrooms, they had no teaching aids, barely any paper or pens, most of the kids had tatty, dirty hand me down clothes and the ones i spoke to confirmed that they live in shacks made from corrogated irion, and lined with bin liners in rainy season, but those kids were the most cheerful, polite and well behaved that I have ever come across. I learnt more from that trip than I could ever have taught them.
We are going back next january for a vacation this time but i intend to take supplys with me.

The greatest thing anyone could ever do is lay down their life for someone worthy.

Well, this question is quite hard to answer, and it may seem a little selfish, but the greatest thing I've ever done is lived on this planet, been around to experience things, and had other people share my ideas. You only get one chance, so why not make the most of it? I live with my focus purely on setting myself up for a great life, and enjoying it along the way. I'm lucky to be alive, so why not make the most of it?

I resent that, Jonathan. Before I gave up my pride I wasn't able to do great things because my need to be praised got in the way. It wasn't until I let go of my ego and realized the benefit is truly for the greater good that I was ever able to accomplish anything. It is still the greatest thing I've ever done because everything else is just a bunch of little things. I've done a billion meaningless good deeds, but they never meant anything until I changed my attitude about life.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

It's true. Having a pure intention will change all your deeds into great things. Even if you do things wrong. If your intention and inspiration is pure whatever effort you put in it's still considered worth a great deal. If you have feelings of pride and a wrong attitude. That just contaminates everything. No amount of effort or saving someones life is going to make it a great thing in essence. Imagine finding out your life was not saved because they loved you at all. I would rather die knowing they tried with love. Then have them succeeded without it.

The greatest thing I ever did. I can't remember and my mind is not in enough clarity to know what that might be. I just can't know for sure every effect I had on people and what it did to them. Only then could I know with clarity what my best deed was.

      Red face

I am sorry I overlooked your post. I only did so because I was looking for acts of greatness, not necessarily things that enabled it. While it is true that one must have a proper attitude in order to do great things, I could not know if what you said was a great thing. This is because it is important to you, while in other comments the action was more visibly great. I did not mean to imply that 'giving up your pride' is anything but great, I only could not know if it truly was, if it truly was done, and maintained. I could not judge such a thing as great or not great without an explanation, so I choose silence, for how could I truly know if it really was beneficial to your self, and to those around you?

I apologize for perhaps belittling your accomplishment, a certain act that is necessary for everyone, but in a short message I could not accurately measure the depth of your action, as it has a nature different than one whose action and its effects are clear and have immediate benefit.

Omnius Deus while we are on the subject of your pride. Let me make a little foot note about what you call yourself. It fascinates me the mind of someone that is willing to put in their custom title. "A false prophet". What is the meaning of this deed? Does this help everyone to know that he is a false prophet? I suppose it does if he wants to be one. But why sabotage yourself? The statement indicates he is false so he must like it. Why would someone like being false when it is the worst quality to experience in a person face to face? Does he then like evilness? If so what is it that makes him like it over something less painful and backwards.

And then the Yoda character adds to this mystery. He is not meant to be a false prophet in Starwars but it is associated with him here. Is he then saying that he is like Yoda and that Yoda is false?

Whatever motivated you to call yourself false is now telling us to not believe you when you say anything. This does not stop me from pointing out you may be honest. In which case "the false prophet" is the lieing statement. Which makes you a liar, and the circle is complete. Fascinating....

As a matter of fact this goes for everyone who has a backwards profile name that indicates evilness. It's not that I am offended or think it shouldn't be allowed. Just confused about why it would be considered an appropriate or satisfying title when we are trying to be human. "Hand built by robots" for example portrays someone not human, but robotic. Which is very difficult to understand. Could these people be hinting at something more significant than first glance. Something deeper that we aren't catching on to? Or are they now simply thinking so foolishly that they are unaware of the insulting nature of their own labels.

I thought you said something along the lines of "No right answers, greatness is up to interpretation."

And Minerva, you spelled lying wrong.

So why should you feel resentment because I choose to praise someone else, and not you? I explained why I personally found the other comment easier to praise, as it was easily explained. I in no way, whatsoever, was saying you had a wrong answer.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say the greatest thing I have ever done was having a foursome in my after-graduation schoolies weekend after highschool ended.

But on a more serious note, I give blood and plasma every second Friday to save lives. I've saved more animals than I can count from getting skittled in the streets, sometimes at my own peril (I don't recommend doing battle with a moving bus to save someone elses dog, but I'm courageously stupid like that). And when my friend killed himself at my high school in a very messy way, I got straight to work and herded the younger children away from the scene to spare them the sight that I'll have to live with for the rest of my life. They owe me for saving them a bad memory and they'll never know it.

But the greatest thing I could ever do is what I'm trying to get involved with now, the reforestation of this beautiful land. I was inspired after seeing a group of scientists that are reclaiming the Sahara desert, metre by metre, every day of the year. Gradually they're pushing the desert back.

Look obviously I'm just not the prophetic type, it's a joke. Seriously, think about it, what else could it mean?

Okay, the truth is... I am the False Prophet.
