      Educational Standards Texas

      http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcont...D90RHOOG0.html

This article makes me pissed lol.

Up next is science, God help us, McLeroy is a creationist so we'll see how that plays out.

Basically Don McLeroy made the decision that he knew better than a group of experts and teachers who had been working on the curriculum for nearly three years, and with the help of an unrelated group of people he threw together a curriculum in one night, presented the material to the committee an hour before they were to meet, and then tried to deny everyone at the meeting the right to review the information.

      lol

I remind you, science is next on their chopping block, and McLeroy is a vocal and adamant anti-intellectual. He admits on his own page he is not a professional educator… but he is the head of the State Board of Education.
I know your joking but still...

my sister just finished teaching her first year in the dallas/ft worth area. this concerns her. I wonder how she feels about it she prefers a more hands on and teacher to student teaching method, rather than strict rules and policies

You can tell it's from Texas, they actually used the word "Rowdy" in a publication

Ah extremist education views. Creationism and abstinence-only sex ed. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy... like a monkey

Sorry Louisiana, I couldn't find one for Texas.

I am from Texas and I don't recall ever using the word rowdy other than at the "rowdy coral" in my elementary school's library. It was just a little area fenced off in the middle of the library where the librarian would read to us.

Most of the accent you'll think of for Texans is actually words Texans use in jest. For example "them there."

We might actually say look at them there hogs boss.

      But we're just joking.

Edit: Oh but when we get dog tired our twain comes out full hardy!
Though I do say howdy for hello to people I don't know. If I do know them then it is just a polite hi or something.

It was a pretty common word with Mississippi rednecks in the 80's. They would say stuff like, "Things was gettin' kind of rowdy at Tommy's house Saturday night." I never hear it any more.

Oh, do people in the south still use the word "Yonder" too?

What's "I-grew-up-in-the-projects-of-the-south-ghetto-accent", sounds like a cross between a southern drawl and ebonics

I still cannot believe there are people who really believe Creation out there. I sincerely can't.

Saying quantum physics explains cognitive processes is just like saying geology explains jurisprudence.
