The real shame of the election.

We had record turnouts this year for the election. I heard from one place, we hadn't had so many people come out to vote in the last 100 years. The problem is we still only just reached 65% vote turnout.

Why do you think its so low? Are Americans just lazy? Or do many of them just feel their vote doesn't matter, or maybe they felt they had no real choice in the election?

All 3 reasons sounds good to me, and some just don't really care.

I'll tell you what's a real shame, some American's don't think the economy is bad. They told what percentage of American's think the economy is bad, and it wasn't 100%.

I can't vote, but I wouldn't have voted anyway. I don't like Obama or McCain. I don't even like Bob Barr. My vote wouldn't even mean anything.

That's because some Americans know that a bad economy is Russia c.1917 or the US c.1931. If the economy was really in trouble, you wouldn't see Starbucks and Walmarts on every street corner, now would you? Let's get some fucking perspective here.

I know I'm sounding like a broken record here but....

Those who don't vote are no better off than those who can't.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

Sometimes not voting is as legitimate a choice as candidate A or candidate B.

If I was ever so fed up then I would at least turn in a blank ballot.

You must have a lot of time to waste in record setting lines just to hand in a blank ballot.

There was no line when I went. Since its a 5 minute drive, I have no problem going to turn in a blank ballot. Though there are other people besides the main two idiots who you can vote for.

I do think it is really sad when everyone was yelling about how much they hate Bush. If you hate Bush so much, go out there and make a difference in the fing election!

Actually I know some people who think the elections are rigged. It doesn't help that some places always seem to have problems with their ballots and stuff.

Elections are rigged, but not in the sense that the republicans cheat or the democrats cheat. The to see the actual rigging requires insight into the real truth: you never chose to be subject to this government.

Oh, right, the economy has to be equal to, or worse than the Great Depression to be considered bad. Yeah, the economy we have right now isn't bad, that's why unemployment is ridiculous around here, and the stock market is sucking, and the rest of the country is. The economy is just peachy.

Unemployment is ridiculous? It's up like 2 points. Ooooh, scary. And the stock market had a huge crash all the way back to 2004 levels. Yeah, you're right, we'll all be on bread lines by the end of the week.

Lol. Everything is closing around where I live, because of the economy. The economy is obviously bad or the jobs wouldn't be shutting down. We don't have to be walking in bread and soup lines to have a bad economy. The economy is terrible, whether you'd like you admit it or not.

Mhm I only have a parttime job but I've seen the rate of business there pretty much halve. It should normally shoot up round Christmas. There is a serious recession taking place.

You guys don't know what a real recession is. Just like me, you're too young to have experienced real economic hardship. You're acting like a spoiled child complaining that he didn't get milk with his cookies. It's shameful.

Here are some signs to look for in a REAL economic collapse, and hopefully this list will make you realize just how silly you're being:

      - double digit unemployment worldwide. I can tell you, Canada is doing amazing right now.

      - precipitous drop in commodity prices. Nope.

      - either rapid deflation or rapid inflation, depending on government policy. Nope, the US is only getting slightly higher inflation.

      - unavailability of luxuries and scarcity of essential goods. All goods are as easy to get as ever.

      - wars worldwide. In fact, war has decreased over the past few years.

      - no power

      - no water

Is this becoming at all clear yet?

How am I acting spoilt? How is recalling my personal experience shameful? Britain is officially in recession, and many of the expert economists (the ones who predicted exactly this a long while before it happened) are saying it's going to be a bad one.

Yes, I realize that I can't actually predict what you're drinking. Still, that laptop is proof that the economy is strong. Such a thing couldn't be produced in a recession, at least not cheaply.
