      Overeating

How do i stop overeating? I am overweight (not obese or anything I just kind of have a gut and moobs). I work out at the least 4 times a weak and I still don't lose wait. The only reason I can think of is that I overeat. I eat when I am Bored and when I just feel like eating. I rarely get hungry because I eat often. This is starting to be a problem and I really want to lose wait. Can someone give me advice?

In the book Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming a person had the same problem as you. The way they fixed was when they had a lucid dream they would eat and eat. In the morning they were satisfied but not full. In the day when they would see food they would just say "I dont need to eat that now I'll just eat it in my dreams!" That is one way how to stop overeating. Hope I helped.

That is a funny and a Great idea, but I don't LD enough to do that every day and I don't want to spend my time in an LD eating. I was looking for a way to break the habit altogether. Thanks for the post though army.

Willpower... You can do it man, don't starve yourself, don't overeat, just eat normally (and healthily as much as your taste buds will permit).

Eat only when you are hungry, and eat only until you are satisfied. If you feel full or sick, you've gone too far. You just want to take the edge off.

And if you can, take up some basic cooking. You'd be surprised how cheap and easy it is to cook healthy, tasty meals. If you combine it with the dining practice above, as well as a bit of exercise, you'll see the pounds melt off.

Also consider that some people just naturally have a harder time losing weight. There is no universal healthy body type, and to some degree, your body type is determined genetically. So, you may very well eat the same as an ultra-skinny person, but due to your genetically determined metabolism, you carry a heftier load. It doesn't mean you are unhealthy, but if you want to lose weight anyway, it may be more of a challenge.

      Good luck.

I used to be overweight, but what I consider within normal limits. What I do now is really just not eat until I haven't eaten in a while. Usually once a day, maybe twice. Some might argue it's anorexia, but honestly I feel just as healthy as I used to, only now I'm skinnier and I get full much more quickly. For example, I used to be able to eat four McDoubles at McDonald's, now I can eat one, maybe one and a half, and I'm full.

What happened when I first started this course was, during the day, I would get really hungry and even get stabbing stomach pains, but I just ignored it--eventually it just went away after an hour or so. Now I almost never feel hungry at all and half the time I eat it's because I know I should and not because I want to. It honestly feels great because not only do you look better but you feel more in control of your life. I lost around 30lbs in a month doing this, and now I'm relatively stable. Just remember to still eat and eat the right things (so you get proper nutrients) and you'll end up fine.

Great advice snoop. Today was my first day resisting overeating. It went good and I feel good about myself.

Honestly the only thing that will help is shear willpower. That coupled with better food choices will be the only way to get healthier.
Stock your house with fruits and vegetables that you like to eat. Eat those instead of the crap you normally do.
Drink water when you get hungry. Two or three huge glasses before you even open the fridge. I drink about 2 gallons a day.
I am quite overweight and my journey to my goal weight is still a long way away, but those few things have really made a huge impact.

My dad is a member of Overeater's Anonymous, I tried it, it wasn't for me but they have this great motto that goes "Nothing tastes as good as abstinence feels"
Just like you said, you felt good about yourself when you resisted. Remember how that felt and strive to keep that feeling going.

I disagree with all the advice about skipping meals. Skipping meals is the worst thing you can do!

You want to keep a more stable metabolism and sugar levels, not rollercoaster back and forth by waiting a long time between meals and starving yourself (which will just make you store more fat because your body will say "hey, I'm starved! Look, food! I need to store this as fat cause I'm used to being starved for long periods of time!" In fact, I would say eat MORE meals. Eat like 5 meals a day, but keep them smaller and healthier.

      Random tips:

      - NEVER skip breakfast. I'd go as far as to say that an unhealthy breakfast sandwich is better than running on empty in the morning.

      - Drink proper amounts of water. In particular, as soon as you get out of bed in the morning, drink a real big glass of water. Your body needs it after 7-8 hours of no water.

      - Speaking of which... Get the right amount of sleep!

      - Chew your food. Like, properly. Like your mom used to say (30 times or so per mouthful?) This will have two effects: First, you will make life easier on your digestive system, which is necessary. Second, you will eat slower, which means you will eat less (feeling of satisfaction has a "lag" so if you eat fast, it's easy to overeat and then feel way too full).

      - Exercise regularly. You should at least do the equivalent of... I dunno, half an hour of cardio every day. But that's baseline, so if you have a hobby that counts as exercise a few times a week (martial arts, climbing, whatever), then go for it.

And snacking is okay, so long as you're not scarfing down Cheetos with a Coke chaser. Keep some nuts on hand for an easy way to help with any cravings. Almonds make you feel full real quickly.

I haven't been starving myself or anything. I have just only been eating when I get hungry, and I only eat to take the edge of hunger away. I am still doing good by the way, I haven't even thought of eating unless I get hungry.

I used to be just about like you. I found that besides just over eating I was eating the wrong things. When you think about how much bad stuff there is in things that we eat every day. Some much stuff is full of fat or sugar. Try taking a significant junk of sugar out of your diet and I think you will get results as there is sugar hidden in a lot of stuff.

I'm going to try fasting. I started last night. I think I have built up some sort of will power now, so I want to test it. That is why I am trying this, don't worry, I am not starving myself.

My father eats a little thing every hour. You could try that, or get a hobby that takes alot of time. If you do that or maybe hang out with your friends alot, you won't need to eat as much. I know you want to fast, but that makes you more hungry when you're done. Also, you can over eat, it just has to be the right stuff. You can have big meals, too if they are healthy.

You can eat all you want to if you go the negative calorie route. You'll literally dine your way to slimness.

Dude, fasting is only going to slow down your metabolism which in turn is going to make you lose even less weight. Any weight you do lose will be muscle which will yet again slow down your metabolism. Nasty cycle, so I'd quit that right now. Same thing happens with cleanses. All you lose is muscle and water weight.

Ok, when you get up in the morning, drink 2-3 glasses of water. Then have stuff like fruit (try mario's negative calories), wholemeal carbs (white carbs is sugar which spikes your blood sugar which gives you cravings. Then you eat more) and protein (eg chicken, fish, beans, eggs). 2-3 hours later, have a snack. Make sure it's healthy. Then have lunch, another snack, and then dinner, always only 2-3 hours after eachother. You don't want to go hungry, but you don't want to be full. You want your metabolism to be as fast as possible. Drink loads of water (try green tea which speeds your metabolism. I didn't like it at first but now I love it!) inbetween meals.

STAY AWAY FROM BAD SUGARS. Stuff like biscuits, cake and all that crap will just make you want to eat more. I'm not saying you can never have anything sweet again, but try fruit sorbet and stuff like that. Soon your cravings will go away because your body will correct its blood sugar levels. This will also make your skin clearer and you'll feel more energetic - some nice side-effects. Fruit sugars are fine Just don't eat too much. Honey is basically sugar made by bees so I recommened Agave Nectar instead.

Try seasoning your foods with herbs instead of sauces. Any sauces you do use, try to make them less creamy. As some other people said, your stomach will shrink and you won't be able to eat as much. Since boredom is a problem, keep busy. Avoid the kitchen. Ask your parent(s) to stop buying crap or at least hide it from you. I also recommend trying to cook yourself - from scratch. Companies put nasty shit in food these days. I started cooking for myself and my dad about 7 months ago and now I love it

What are you doing for exercise? I recommend lifting weights (although don't ask me about this, I haven't a clue, all I know is the more muscle you have the faster your metabolism) and interval training. Go running and switch from jogging to sprinting, or walking to sprinting. Exercise also releases endorphins which makes you happier. Runner's high is REAL. But not just with running, general exercise. Make sure it's high intensity. This causes an afterburn of the metabolism which makes you burn more calories for a few days afterwards.

Oh, and please please please don't go on any fad "miracle" diets! Everyone knows that they just don't work.

Haha, my dad was a p.t instructer in the army and my uncle's a personal trainer so... I've picked stuff up from them... Good luck! I hope this works out. Stay confident and stick to it

For exercise I lift weights, do push ups, pull ups, and a variety of other stuff. I also run a mile a day. What ever I am doing is currently working. I have plenty of muscle, I have been lifting weights for awhile. I just wanted to shed 20-30 pounds, because I think I still have too much excess body fat.

You may have plenty of muscle now, but if you fast then that's not going to last long. Twenty to thirty pounds is still quite an amount, so you'll still have to clean up what you eat in order to drop that. If you don't you'll probably stop losing.

Remember it's not just about weight loss, it's about a healthy lifestyle too.

A normal weight drop is about 1-2 pounds per week. 5 per week is doing damn good if all you're doing are the healthy things. Yeah, don't fast, and keep doing what you've been doing. You're already exceeding the norm in spades. Just be patient.

Why does it mean you are exceeding by a lot if you say you are exceeding in spades? I'm not questioning your wording I've just been wondering where that phrase comes from.
