      Setting Mixing?

Does anyone else's dreams commonly have mixed real-life settings?

Like for example.. the house I live in now. I have NEVER had a dream where I'm simply in this house. My "home" has always been a mixture of just houses I'm familiar with. For example, one of the settings a few days ago was a mixture of my uncle's old house and my grandma's old house.. and the night before that.. a mixture of the house I live in now and one of my other uncle's houses.

In addition, sometimes I'll be in a classroom with the same layout as one of my old bedrooms, or possibly there's a faculty meeting in my laundry room! (that actually happened two nights ago)

Does this happen to anyone else frequently? My dreams rarely take a setting in real life just as it is.. but like to mix them with other settings to create something completely new.

Not for me. All my dreams take place in locations that I either recall from real life or are completely generated by my mind (with some impressions on architechture and such from random places, but nothing specific)

I experience pretty much the same as you, matemlak. It's extremely rare for my dreams to occur in places that exist in my waking life (home, work, relaxing places we go). I've tried to incubate dreams set in my real life home because I think I'd be more likely to realise I'm into lucid dreaming, but it doesn't happen.

Like JussiKala said, all the places in my dreams are usually made up by my sleeping mind. But I don't mean fantasy places like other dimensions with different laws of physics or alien planets - I mean places that would be totally plausible as real life places on earth. The people are a mixture of real people and dream people (who don't resemble people in real life or people I've ever met). Again, all the people would be plausible as real life beings - there are no impossible creatures or beings with superpowers.

As I achieve lucidity more often I'm hoping to condition my dreams so that the starting defaults in my dreams is far away from reality.

There's a user on here called billybob he wrote this huge post about how schemata is how dreams form.schemata is your basic prime thought. So like the first thing you think of when I say popcorn. For me, it's movies. So this would be true assuming that say when you think of "house" you may think of your home, but you may also think of your neighbors house and maybe when you think of your neighbors house you may think of your neighbor. That's a brief version of it but I think it answers you question
      I'm always happy.
