      Music During Meditation - Acceptable?

I was reading about how meditation before sleep can improve your chances of a successful lucid dream so I have decided to give it a try. However, I was wondering whether or not using music such as Zen garden meditation music was acceptable or not. Will listening to this music while I meditate have any effect on the meditation process?
Also, how long should I meditate for before sleeping?

      All help is appreciated.
      Thanks.

I am not an expert on meditating, but i heard that 10-30 minutes should be enough time. Any music that is known to help in mediation should be alright as well. I would highly recommend listening to binaural beats while meditating as it puts your brain into theta mode...the same brain waves you experience during dreaming. Good luck!

      Thanks jblb ^.^
I think I'll give it a pass on the binaural beats as I don't want to have to rely on them to enter that state of mind. I mainly just use the music to make the experience more pleasant and have a rough idea of how long I've been meditating for.

I like to meditate to music, but I don't like music when I WILD. I find it a bit distracting.

Are there any forms of meditation where music is a part of it (not necessarily binaural beats, but just regular music)?

If you're meditating just for relaxation, by all means, listen to some relaxing music.

If you're trying to gain any insight/learn about the nature of your mind, and your ego/consciousness, music is a distraction (in my experiences so far, and from what I've read). If youre into it, I recommend googling "Mindfulness in Plain English." Its online, its free, and its a great way to look at meditating.

I'm by no means an expert in meditation, but I've been thoroughly enjoying it for the past 3 weeks, practicing daily.

Interesting book. I'll look into it. I'm right now following the "aro meditation course" that you can get emailed to you each week.
