Thread: I may have played too many video games growing up...

Does anyone else find that in their dreams, they experience things as though they were playing a video game? Things like heads up displays, or entities with glitching animations, or feeling like you are controlling the dream through a keyboard/mouse or controller that you don't actually have any perception of? Hard to explain this exactly, I'll just quote from my DJ...

-This one is weird. It’s like some kind of game that I am viewing from third person, or from an alternate perspective altogether? It’s not clear if I’m the “main character” in this dream or just an observer, but I get the sense that I am both, like I’m playing a video game and I control the main character. So the gist of the dream is that these giant armies of droids are attacking Earth, or whatever place it is I’m at, and I’m in like city streets and there are these giant groups of lightsaber wielding droids. They move slowly and lack grace, they just walk towards you and try to whack you with the lightsaber. They also seem to have some kind of cannon because they blow up some buildings too. The thing that’s funny about this, and something I think I specifically heard a voice mention in the dream, is that the way in which the main character kills the robots is totally bland and lame. Instead of doing cool sweeping lightsaber moves where he dances through the crowd of robots slicing their shit to bits, he plays really defensively and it’s totally lame to watch. Also he appears to have a double-sided lightsaber, and the rear side seems capable of shooting shotgun blasts. He’ll use the shotgun blasts to kill the bots or what he does most is this odd move where he turns on the secondary blade and just jabs it into the robot’s head real quick, so that the whole robot just disintegrates. I think I remember hearing a voice say something about, “Now you understand the importance of the second lightsaber blade.”

One dream is within WoW. I am a druid, and I am fighting PvP against Jacob. I know this is Jacob somehow, I just know it’s him, though obviously there’s no real indication that it is him, I just know it is. He’s a rogue and he’s very good, very FAST. He circles around me very effectively and I’m struggling a little to handle my hotkeys and stuff. I manage to synchronize mouse turning to get off an entangling roots, which crits for 900 damage (can Entangling Roots crit?). I run off a bit and I’m not sure if I continue attacking him or what I do, but he starts coming at me again and he hits me but is frozen to the ground frozen-armor-mage style, an ability a druid wouldn’t probably have. That’s all I seem to remember.

The next flash is I’m hiding on top of a doorway waiting for this enemy guy I have to defeat to come through. He does and I drop some kind of potion on him? The intent is to have some good effect but as I drop the potion for some reason I also fall off the door and land right in front of the guy. I seem to recall that he slices me and I have to respawn or something? Because then after this suddenly I’m fighting this guy in a much more wide open area. We’re running around doing the standard lightsaber battle dance. At one point he force grips me and this causes a really cool effect on my vision, everything gets red and starts warping and twisting in my view. Then I force grip him back to break it and I fling him up into the air in the process. He lands near me and we keep fighting. Then this Boba Fett style bounty hunter jetpack sort of character joins the fight. I think I was fighting him before, too, because he seems familiar. However, this doesn’t go well for him, because he positions himself such that the other bad guy, who by the way is dual-wielding lightsabers (I think... I’m pretty sure). This other bad guy accidentally swings and completely slices the dude in half. Something about this seems to injure the guy, too, because he gets knocked over to the ground and I immediately rush in to coup de gras him. The attack animates just like in Jedi Academy when someone is on the ground and you do that jump-stab thing. What’s weird is here it’s in 3rd person, like I see myself doing these things, but I’m not sure it was ALWAYS in third person. So I do the jump-stab thing and this effectively kills him because he starts sparking and sorta sputtering like a robot getting ready to explode. I figure I don’t have much time or health so I start trying to backflip away, and it uses the same backflip sorta animation as the game too. As I’m flipping away, though, my whole ‘screen’, my vision starts majorly glitching out, like video-card-is-melting glitches. White static fills the screen randomly and things glitch and spark like crazy. I swear the screen shows the words “Oh no.” before the dream ends.
