How do you go from having bad dreams to good ones?

I read that the majority of our dreams are negative dreams not positive ones. What do you do differently in waking life to have good dreams? I've been having negative ones, maybe because of stress over school work and whatnot.

That's a difficult question. My dreams are notoriously violent, but I don't really consider them negative dreams. I feel like the violence in my dreams is my brain's way of relieving stress that I build up during my waking life. As for changing the tone of your dreams... This is purely a guess but I would suggest thinking more positive thoughts as you fall asleep, and try to concentrate on things that relax you rather than what's stressing you out (in general when appropriate, but mainly right before sleep). Maybe even think of a dream you want to have and try to enter it. Some people are good at dream incubation, personally I've had very little success with it.

I also agree with duke, though the majority of my dreams are more mysterious than violent and negative. I feel that even if your dreams are negative I always have the chance to learn something about myself from the dream that I had while sleeping.

Uhm, what generally happens when I have a good dream is that I have to be in a good mood the whole day or right before I got to bed. If I go to bed having a bad day I usually have a bad dream.

      Hoped this helped!

I agree: negative is in the eye of the beholder. One person's nightmare is another's interesting dream. If you adjust your attitude to perceive dreams as interesting rather than negative that will help.

Well I don't know what should I even say. I could say how it is for me. Well I used to have nightmares and many sorts of bad dreams. And before a few years it was really scary to me and unpleasant but I don't know...nowadays I don't find it that scary neither unpleasant. I just got used to that kind of dreams and now I take it for normal. Actually I am really pleased and satisfied if I have that kind of dreams to. They aren't any more that scary to me or anything I take them like almost any other dream. Sometimes I can wake up because of a dream I guess but it doesn't bother me anymore as before. I am actually glad to have any dream and I try to enjoy every dream I have.

Well....I would suggest looking at pictures of flowers or something or spending some time petting a dog or cat before bed?

Thinking nice thoughts does help and everyone should try it xD

Also try to relax and be as calm as possable as you fall asleep. Maybe have some chamomile tea too?
