Dreamt of a Snake Trying to Bite Me

Hi everyone! I woke up a few hours ago from a dream that was slightly disturbing and mostly confusing for me. I would love to hear your views and interpretations on what it could mean.

      Here goes:
From what I remember, I dreamt that I met up with a friend (can't remember anymore who but that person seemed to be close to me but we haven't seen each other in a while.) I approached the person for a hug until I saw that the person had a medium-size green snake slithering on his/her arm. This person greeted me but I stepped back when I saw the snake. He/She insisted on giving me a hug but I was worried about the snake biting me. He/She told me there was nothing to worry about. So I decided to try to hug the person (cause I'm generally not scared of snakes, I just don't like the idea of getting near them enough to get bitten.) And when I leaned closer, the snake faced me and was trying to bite. I moved back slightly and I saw the snake momentarily open his mouth. When I looked in, I saw that the snake's teeth were blunt/flat, as if someone filed it down. But it didn't stop the snake from looking and being mischievous.

I'm quite confused as to what that might mean or how that reflects my subconscious. I am currently experiencing a break up (since 5 days ago) from a person I truly care about but he has depression and has pushed me away to "save" me from him cause he's been in a funk for a few weeks now and he feels guilty that he can't reciprocate the care that I'm giving him. I am slightly torn between reaching out to him (cause I sometimes wonder if his pushing me away was just the depression talking) or keeping my distance because he asked me to and to give him space to sort things out. I fell into bouts of crying within the first three days but since yesterday, although I'm sad to be separated from him and I miss him, I haven't cried. When I think about him, I just send loving thoughts instead.. cause I don't know what else to do.

I hope you guys can help me out. It might also help me figure out whether I should try to keep the relationship going or let go completely.

Can't wait for your thoughts. Thank you so much!

Although it would usually be best to have some additional general background information about you in order to provide an accurate interpretation, from what you’ve written it looks like the friend in the dream could represent an inner part of yourself that’s been stirred up by the upsetting breakup that you’ve just gone through.

For example, the “she” possibility of the person could represent your natural feelings of compassion and acceptance of others (wants to hug you).

The “he” side could symbolize a kind of fixed idea or opinion something like “I must never think of myself when trying to help someone else” etc.

Maybe you haven’t had to experience this inner situation for some time (haven’t seen the friend for a while) but the current state of affairs has apparently resulted in a very basic instinctive response in you (the green snake wants to bite you).

A bite usually symbolizes that the dreamer has tended to drift too far away from a healthy overall inner balance and could suffer a “bite” in the practical way of unpleasant physical or psychological symptoms.

For instance, while the bouts of crying that you experienced could be normal and acceptable in the circumstances, it’s also possible that, depending on your general emotional and psychological makeup, they might point to a small “bite” of depression.

If so, the dream might be showing that it would be best to sort of follow your basic wariness of snakes and not wanting to expose yourself to being bitten by being careful regarding the relationship with your depressed friend.

He may indeed sense that you could be too susceptible to being dragged down by the problems surrounding his illness, especially if he isn’t receiving the help that he needs.

So it looks like you’ll just have to look inside to see how much contact with your friend that you can sustain, given your innate ability to handle such stress.

Anyway as mentioned, without knowing anything much about you, this way of looking at your dream might not fit your personal circumstances very well but I hope these ideas can be helpful in some way.
