Recalled dreams happen in cycle (life cycle, not sleep cycle)

I wonder if this is something I can work on / improve. My recalled dreams seem to happen in a cyclic way, but I've never figured out the pattern.

My general sleep pattern has been (for the last 18 years):
Insomnia until my body is weak, sick, depressed..
Then sleep normally for a little while because my body can't take it anymore.
      Then back to insomnia.

But when it switches, this is where I have very clear, vivid, recalled dreams. I can remember every detail extremely clearly. It is like I was there, in real life. I don't think they were lucid as I never "knew" I was dreaming.

At the moment, I am in a new insomnia cycle. I was sleeping really well for the last 2 weeks, and since about 5 days I have a lot of trouble to sleep. These 5 days, I had 1-2 really clear and recalled dream per night. In my past experiences, the dreams will soon stop (well, I'll stop recalling them) and then I'll have about 2-3 months of insomnia, then back to good sleep. At this point I will remember my dreams again for a few days, maybe a week.

Now I'd like to learn to Lucid dream. I don't want to stop the recalled dream cycle though!! I see this is an important step for LD.

I now write down my dreams, in hope it will help.

Do you have any idea why this happens? Is it a normal thing that when our sleep pattern changes, our recalled dreams increase? Can I ameliorate the recalled dream rate by doing something else then writing them down (not taking alcohol or drugs). I am already trying to eat B6 vitamins in bananas, chocolate, etc.

      Thanks!

I have no idea why it happens, I go through similar cycles as well in terms of having longer sleep cycles and remembering more dreams and in greater detail. I really enjoy when that happens
But I have no idea what triggers the shift for me.

There are a few things that I know of that can help to improve recall. You can lay in bed and think about the dreams for awhile once you wake up, instead of getting out of bed. You can also use mantras to try to straight up remember your dreams better or to wake up more times during the night, so there are more opportunities to remember dreams throughout the night that way. That might not be a good option for you though, if you're already having difficulty getting enough sleep as it is.

That's great that you're learning to lucid dream, feel free to pm me with any questions you have if you ever want to
      I love to help people
