      Concentrating on one thought

      Hello,

I hope I am posting in the right place. I am having trouble concentrating on thoughts when trying to do several types of lucid dreams. I decided to try WILD a little while ago and I would count in my head, concentrate on breathing, ext. But then sometimes random thoughts such as events from the previous day come along and then I don’t even realize that I started to think about that so I then go back to concentrating on breathing and counting.

When I try to do VILD, I lye in bed and think of the basic dream scene. Then it morphs into other random crap that has nothing to do with the dream scene and then I realize that I have gone off track and then I re think the dream scene, but no matter how hard I concentrate it morphs into other things without me even realizing. Is their some kind of meditation or something to do to prevent this? Thanks.

Hey Dylan, you can post this in the General Lucid Discussion forum to get more help. Since you're talking about LDing And in my opinion, when getting off track trying to do a WILD, you can let it happen, but still try to have that little bit of awareness, if you push it too hard trying to count numbers, it could end right there... But kind of let yourself get off track but be aware, if that makes sense I hope this helped, and I don't really know about VILD, but same thing, it's okay to get off track, just don't let yourself doze off completely.

Oh ok, thank you! I thought I had to be on track at all times.

Dreamlets like those happen to me, too, and it's just as you describe—it can be really tricky to actually notice when they begin. As sparkley said, the best thing to do seems to be just trying to notice when you've strayed as soon as possible, and gently bring yourself back on track. This will probably become easier with practice.
