How short can a complete dream be?

It happens me some times that I remember a dream very clearly, but I only have memory of a certain place or landscape I'm watching in first person (maybe I'm not even there). Maybe there's almost no action, and the place keeps static simply flowing. At most, you could se animals or people simply passing by the scene, but nothing really happens.

I remember with detail those dreams, and often I can't recall anything more than that. Do you think there's something else I don't remember, or maybe those dreams are simply that short and simple?

I believe the dreams were just that simple. When you don't have distractions or diversions on you that take away your attention from the environment, you'll appreciate it and put more attention on it, and it's attention that fuels dream vividness.

Thanks for your response. Is interesting to know, specially for me now I'm still trying to improve my memory. Many mornings I can't still remember what I've dreamt, and sometimes I have this kind of clear but very short memory, so I'm not sure if there's something else or I just recalled the whole dream.

It is also possible that you currently have a very peaceful mind, and that nothing much happens in your dream may be a sign of a good thing, a mind at rest. Society has conditioned us to see action as good and lack of action as bad, but relaxing without stress is surely highly desirable and something most of us struggle with. So having such dreams may be a good sign of your state of mind. Do you meditate?

Although not always, there seem to be some characteristics that differentiate dreams in several stages of sleep: N-REM dreams seem to have a much more "normal" plot, in the sense that they can be compared to the waking experiences you have on a daily basis (like mind-wandering through a landscape). Dreams from lighter sleep stages also tend to recreate singular scenes instead of stories like you'd experience in length during REM.

Sounds good, but I'm not so sure. Lately I've been quite stressed because of my job, and I normally have my mind full of thoughts, ideas, etc when I go bed. Anyway, I like to listen to some podcasts at night, and during the time it takes me to get asleep I get to relax and start thinking in something different (more relaxing & creative thoughts). I think meditation could be well, I have to learn about it!

Then may be that. Those static scenes seems to be the whole dream, but they may be come from lighter stages of my dream. Nevertheless, those scenes are quite creative sometimes!
