      Question Inconsistency in Dream Recall

So, as I've become more consistent in the use of my (personal) dream journal (starting as of 13 days ago, with entries every day since then), I've once again started remembering more than one dream per night, and dreams are once again starting to feel longer and more vivid. However, I have also noticed something a bit odd about my dream recall, as I have gone back through my dream journal to create rudimentary illustrations of my dreams and relive the memories from my dream. Despite my consistency in writing my dreams down when I wake up after trying to relive the dream to preserve the memory of it, I occasionally find memories of my dreams just... absent. However, I always know that I had been dreaming; it wasn't like when I wasn't dream journalling before, where there would be absolutely nothing for me to remember-- instead, it felt like I had been dreaming, but there was no imagery to associate with the feeling. No sensations, emotions, or ideas would be there with that feeling, but I would know that I had been dreaming, and the memory of it felt like it was so close, yet I couldn't come up with the memory, no matter how hard I tried. It's pretty bizarre and frustrating actually, and it feels like the results of dream journalling are kind of inconsistent, despite my own consistency in the journalling and awareness.

Has anyone else had that weird feeling when they try to recall their dreams?

Additionally, is there anything I can be doing to attain more consistent results from my dream journalling? It's kind of jarring to have 2 long, vivid dreams one night, along with two fragments, and then wake up the very next night with no memory of my dreams.
That certainly is a nice red button you have there.

It'd be a shame if someone were to...

      Press it.

i can relate to what you said in many ways i have been keeping a dream journal for about 2 weeks now,
and i can remember in average 3 too 2 a day, but sometimes i wake up try to remember but cant .
i have this thought in my head something like ( it was this no maybe this noo )
like there is nothing to remember but i still try , and nothing to write down
