Dream of digging/ finding clothes

I had a dream that I was with some people (no one that I know in real life). I don't remember what was going on immediately before, but we were apparently looking for something. One guy started to dig underground, and I said "Do you have a permit for that?" He just kept going. Under the ground, we found some old clothes that I had lost. I remember being happy to see them again. But then he kept digging, and there was a body part! I almost got sick, and that's when I woke up. Any ideas? Thanks!

For me, underground is a metaphor for a hidden part of my mind. I think that if you dig deep enough, you find horrifying things, call them 'sins of the fathers', or a more clearly felt appreciation of our predatory nature. So there's a tradeoff between the peace you feel from not hiding from yourself, and the discomfort from knowing things about our nature and origins that no emotionally honest person can be comfortable with. I don't know what your dream is about for you, but that's what it might mean for me. If you believe in past lives you can interpret it that way, but it has a similar meaning even if you don't.

Here is my take. I think the digging refers to finding out and facing aspects of your personality that are/were unconscious to you. Some things about yourself will be good, and some not. According to Jungian psychology, we all possess a 'shadow aspect' - the unwanted or unknown parts of ourselves. As you dig, you find old clothes. This to me says an older aspect of your identity that you've discarded. So.. getting back in touch with some hobby you used to like, or some way you used to be. The corpse may be something shocking.. it could be a deed you regret that has surfaced to your mind recently.. it could be an aspect of yourself you've "killed". Perhaps you're thinking about something lately involving your past: an abandoned project, a failed relationship, a hobby you gave up, etc. Something that you no longer have in your life. Good luck!

Thank you for your thoughts. I have been thinking a lot lately about getting back into things I love doing like dancing and theater, which got derailed because of covid. So, that would make sense.
