      heyas

today i was just on wikipedia and i come across a link to dreams. out of curiosity i clicked on it and got sucked in. i read so many things to do with dreaming like lucid dreaming, REM, The stages of sleep etc and i was facinated by what i read. then i found a link to something called hynagogia and from what i understand it is the stage when you are conscious still but in a paralysis and from this state you can go into hypnagogic hallucenations (spelling?). you feel as if you can touch hear all sorts of things in this state. many emotions happen the most common being fear and joy.

then i realised that i have had this happen to me, 3 times that i can recall now, but each time has lasted no more than 10 seconds because i have been startled by what i have dreamt and then woken up.

here is what happened to me each of these 3 times:

      1. i was riding a bike, it was in olden day times because there were horses and carts everywhere. i was weaving in and out of what i recall to be horse poo on my bike then all of a sudden i lost control and landed in a puddle. as i hit the ground i woke up and 'twitched' for lack of a better word in bed.

      2. i was driving along in a car then someone in front of me hit the brakes suddenly i remember seeing the brake lights come on then me running right up the back of the car. i pretty much woke up on impact but recall seeing the windscreen of my car braking just before waking up. once again the twitch thing happened.

      3. my friend had been pulled over by a police officer and i went over to see what the problem was. the police officer told me to stay back but i must have kept going. all i remember next is the police officer having a beer bottle in his hand then throwing it straight towards me. it missed and as soon as it hit the ground it smashed and i instantly woke up. once again the twitch thing, this time i was next to my ex gf and she asked if i was okay because of my sudden movement. plus i we litterally just turned off the tv and this happened instantly

each one of these would have lasted no more than 10 secs. am i on the right track of this being hynagogic? i am sorry if i seem uneducated on the matter as i have only known about any of this for like 3 hours and in this time have become very very facinsated and just very curious on what it is that i have experienced

any enlightment would be much appreciated

      hello and welcome! :yumdumdoodledum:

those probably were HIs! *hynagogic images* HIs happen before you fall asleep. Most people fall asleep before becomming aware they are having HIs. HIs can be very dreamlike in that you can move around in them, fly even, but at the same time you might have sensations of sleeping in your bed or even hear what is going on in your room. Its almost like experiencing two places at once.

But, once you can no longer feel your bed, feel your body or hear anything in your room, youve fallen asleep! But youre still aware in the HI. When this happens you are free to roam around in your dream lucid. Ive only had this happen to me once. I just realized..I could no longer feel my bed! So I flew out the window into a fantastical dreamscape.

You might want to look up the lucid technique WILD. If you are good at HIs you might like learning how to WILD then.
