      Question Spirit Animals

In many cultures, animals have deep spiritual meaning. Usually your animal finds you in dreams or when using drugs. I was wondering if some other people have had any kind of recurring animal in their dreams that they think is significant.
Personally, I see Black Bears a lot. Both dreaming and on hallucinatory drugs. In fact, I can recall 7 dreams with black bears and the only other animals I have seen are my 2 dogs.
And what if all of the world and the comforts that you knew disappeared? What if the idea of self, the idea of a thought, and all consciousness faded away while your ego died? Would you hold onto life or cease to exist, are you more than your mind and more than your feelings, can you exist without yourself? Do you know your cosmic niche and could you be content when you are gone?

You mean stuff we don't summon?

Fish. Tropical ones. Could it be because I breed them as a hobby?

Good question. I'm not sure about recurring animals although I do see animals a lot. I recently saw sea lions for example (see my DJ). My recent favourite was a white stallion, which seemed to meet with swooning when I mentioned this to some women once!!! I've also seen dogs recently. The white horse was probably the strongest symbol of the three, though.

      Hey there,

I wouldn't say this occurs a lot, but cats in my dream, all types of them, have a special meaning.

They often represent the idea of a person or someone I'm very close to. In my early adult years I went through a period in my life where I felt very isolated and alone, but I had this cat that I had a really close bond with. The cat would listen only to me, but would always come when I called, and often seemed to understand me on a way that didn't even require me to say anything. I felt a very strong kinship to that animal, and hence, nowadays, I traces of this feeling of kinship still exist whenever I see any type of cat.

So when they appear in my dreams, they're often a sign of someone or something that 'I feel very close to', or feel a certain 'kinship' for.

Additionally, the black panther in particular has an even greater meaning (hence my avatar ). I used to have reoccuring nightmares of a very terrifying dark presence, nothing that was in the dream but that felt like it was all around me, utterly oppresive, striking my numb with pure terror. Those were the worst sort of nightmares I had. Until I learned to recognise them as a dreamsign, and one day managed to become lucid during exactly such a nightmare. I confronted the fear and terror, and the ethereal sort of dark presence turned into a very beautiful black panther, which came at me, completely non hostile, and that I again felt a very deep kinship with. Since that time the nightmare never returned, and even normal anxiety dreams are very very rare for me now (plus they always turn me lucid).

      So those are my dream-animals

The animal I see most in my dreams are dragons. They actually (they being animals) don't show up too much. This is probably because I have no pets. People I know, however, appear frequently.
The saying "in your dreams" has taken on a whole new meaning...

It's stuff like RedRivers was talking about. Whenever I see the blackbear it always has a deep impact on me. Like one time when I saw the bear sleeping beside my pool and I went and slept beside it and the whole week I was very relaxed and calm. And another where, when my life was getting stressed my bear appeared as something more agressive that was restlessly walking around campus. It's more than the animal just appearing, it always has some kind of impact.
And what if all of the world and the comforts that you knew disappeared? What if the idea of self, the idea of a thought, and all consciousness faded away while your ego died? Would you hold onto life or cease to exist, are you more than your mind and more than your feelings, can you exist without yourself? Hmm. Expanding upon 'fish,' usually... They make me sad. Looking back on my dream journal, they are usually ill, deformed, or dead. In one profound dream (from when I first started the hobby) I was in a hexagonal aquarium, with hundreds of orange fish looking at me from the outside. They'd die, and then more fish would suddenly burst from their stomachs. I felt so sorry for the dying fish as well as the newborns, which also died to give birth. In other dreams, my big ol' plecosotmus gets sick/dies. I've cried in my sleep during some of these dreams (even though I didn't breed him myself, I've had him ever since he was two months old...).

The most neutral fish dreams I have involve seeing my fish at pet stores (I sell them to pet stores in real life). Usually I'm just watching them swim around, often with vibrance and life. I occasionally feel a longing for these fish, wishing I didn't sell them.

I wonder what it could mean?
