      Can you choose your dreams?

Is it possible to lets say, choose what dreams you have? I don't mean being lucid or controlling them, I mean just choosing a topic and dreaming about it?

Yea i believe that's called the VILD technique, you go to bed with a scene in mind and then in happens. Essentially you incubate the dream into your subconscious

You sure can, though it can often not work out as expected Like you can imagine an environment and scenario, but in the end you might only get one or the other.

well.. think about it... a part from the incubating part you have probably already done it.

for example you go to bed hinking about the gorgeous girl at the grocery store and then you fall asleep and you dream of her..

the period of time before falling asleep is really " sensitive ", i mean your mind is sensitive, that period is not also used to incubate dreams but also for hipnosis or self controlling.. if you meditate a bit and keep repeating to yourself: "i will wake up at 6:23 AM" it's mostly like you will wake up at that time splitting the second

my father used this tecniques for the everyday life, such as waking up at a certain time without an alarm clock or improving his skill and concetration in that way and also to choose what to dream

i dunno if the explanation is clear, my english is ot perfect...

I do it quite often. When I for example want to dream about a specific movie I watch it before I go to bed. In bed I try to visualize parts of the movie
I want to experience in the dream. Should work for books similar. It works best if you use wbtb or are really tired when doing this.

It works quite often, but sometimes my subconscious combines elements of the movie with my normal day life and the dream becomes really hilarious.

The technique weaver rage mentioned about the specific waking time I use for wbtb. It works really well.

Incubating dreams is possible. But you'd probably have to be REALLY talented to dictate every single aspect of your dreams. I'm not even sure it's possible to dream something down to the letter. When I do Tasks of the Month or personal goals, even when I succeed at them they almost never turn out quite like I'd expect. There are always twists and turns, surprises and disappointments. And this is in lucid dreams. I don't try to incubate/control non-lucids, but I'd probably find similar results if I did: whatever I incubate would happen in the most basic sense, but every unspecified detail is completely up for grabs.

No dream goals at the moment...just flying and letting stuff happen is kinda fun, and it's hard to motivate myself to try LDing lately.

You mean like dream incubation? [I think that's the term] Where you try to influence what you dream by what you think in real life? [If that's what you call it] I believe so.

If you mean while in a dream, if you focus enough on something, lucid or not, the dream molds itself around the thought... It's the easiest way I've changed dream scenes in a normal dream other than running or turning a corner and such.

I remember long ago, around the age of 6 or 7 when me and my brother used to joke about this idea; we called it the "Blue Screen" (named after the C64 OS, which was all blue in colour). In it, we'd imagine a C64 user interface presenting lists in the mind that allowed for the selection and configuration of the dream for that night.

I never actually believed that it was possible and it never actually worked, lol.

Of course, that was almost two decades ago and I've learned a lot since then.

I incubate my nonlucid dreams almost every night. Its almost as fun as lucid dreaming. Your subconscious comes up with some very bizarre answers to your incubation attempts. Lately I have been trying a new technique of incubating 3 or more scenes/ topics. It makes for some weird combinations.

You can also use dream incubation as a stepping stone to lucidity. Use repetative topics or environments as forced dream signs. Incubate a dream about the beach for 5 nights in a row, and tell me you won't get the hint on the 6th night.

It worked for me many times. Though, when it works, I immediately remember that it's what I wanted to dream and become lucid.
Actually, it works better for me then the other way around, ie. when I concentrate on becoming lucid, which also works, I often can't remember what I actually wanted to do in a lucid dream.

I sort of do this almost every night. When i get up in the middle of the night when i go back to bed wherever or whoever i think of i seem to dream of when i return to sleep, it sometimes sets the theme for the night.
