Those who record dreams; how often does this happen?

I've had this happen now more times than I care to count. I wake up from a dream, record the entire events of the dream, continue doing whatever it is I think I should be doing after getting up, and then...

      I WAKE UP!

Of course, realising that recording the dream was a complete waste of time, because I have to do it again!

The most annoying part about this is that when I'm recording my dreams in my dreams, my memory of the dream is so much clearer than it is when I record them when I actually wake up, and I usually feel like I lose quite a lot of detail.

Does this often happen to anyone else?

      It's happened a few times!

I try very hard to make a habit of doing a Reality Check the moment I wake up, every time. I've caught a lot of false awakenings like that.

      Yes it has.

And as is the case with FAs, it can get very confusing as to what is real and what isn't. For example, are you sure you dreamed the original dream or did it only manifest as you wrote it down following your FA? And if so, does it matter?

It happens to me a lot. I think it actually helps me remember the dream ultimately, by going thru it once or twice in the FA's before I really wake up. It's useful for getting lucid too; after it happens enough times you start to recognize what's going on.

It happens to me too but not a whole lot. One time it happened 5 times one morning, it was so annoying! I never get very far when it happens though, I will wake up in my bed and go about getting ready for my day, then it will hit me I didn't get up after all, still dreaming. Then I will try to wake up again using my head to try and lift myself awake then it will repeat slightly different, just enough I will believe it for a short time...
And experience it as a place to visit and play with reality.

Interesting take on it. Normally, I'm VERY sure of what I dreamed in these cases, but the other day, I woke up from a dream and rested whilst I tried to recall as much as possible before recording. Anyway, part way into recalling the events, I must've fallen asleep again and ended up back in the dream again, only I was remembering completely different events that never happened! I didn't even become lucid from it.

I can imagine that for those writing dreams (as opposed to voice recording), this would be less of a problem; it might even work in their favour because you'd notice your writing might change or be unreadable, which could make you lucid.

Definetely do a reality check. As you just won't remember it the second time. This has happened to me when I was new dream recording.

Actually, it doesn't happen to me often. I think it has happened to me maybe once. Though, as Barns said do a RC and that shoud clear up your problem.
