Right before you go to bed...

First I would like to state that I'm sorry for the title, because I didn't give any explanation about what I'm talking about.

Has anyone ever experienced a time right before they are about to fall asleep where they hear and see things, but if they focus on it (become conscious?) They completely loose it?

Do you mean they lose it as in evacuation of their bowels? he he he he

These are signposts of the dream gates. Lo & behold for these are signs of what is to come. They indicate your awareness is taking leave of its exclusive physical focus to more of a mental or non-physical focus.

If they haven't evacuated their bowels by now they might if they hear the roaring, thunderous sounds, the whole of reality shaking.

Or if we are possessed with a resolute calm & fearless focus we can be free of our flesh suits for a while...

      I think so.

I've had nights where as I am falling asleep, I'm just like hypnotized in the sense that I don't sense the world around me (the bed I'm laying on, the blackness all around) and start picturing scenes in my head (not vivid though) and then I realize I'm going to sleep and snap out of it.

In all seriousness what you are experiencing is a hard focus. When we scrutinize anything or try to make sense out of things we are activating beta brain waves. This has a tendency to stimulate wakefulness in the brain.

I would suggest cultivating a relaxed focus or alert relaxation. the highest way of doing this is practicing the art of observation this is like the moon in the stream in that you simply allow objects or thoughts to flow in and out of your mind or better said watch them flow in and out of focus of your conscious mind. Sink into the space between objects & thought.

This attitude here activates many brain waves and mostly alpha & theta. These brainwaves are conductive to sleep and lucid dreaming.

I have this kind of thing every night. Sometimes it develops into what I call "mini-dreams" which last for a few seconds (sometimes longer) and then I become fully awake again.

You are still concious, at least I am. I know I'm dreaming and I can focus on them or not. I'm in control. I just passively watch them as that is what is recomended. Sometime they expand, sometimes they disappear

I'm pretty sure you're still concious though

Because I'm a very visual person, these are common for me. I actually had a few befor knocking out last night. Prob about 3-4. I'm just lying there and I get flashes of a scene

Is there anything behind these, like it's a stage, or brain waves going off, or is it just a form of HI?

      Normal

When I was younger this has happened to me frequantly, now they don't happen at all, rarely. I sorta miss it. I understand what your saying. Where it sounds like it's a real conversation but when you concentrate on it. It stops. But i learned a way to make it last maybe why it ended, probably didn't end for me but just became so use to it that I am unware any more. But just don't focus on it, instead embrace it it won't ever make sense, but you will catch words and listen. Dont become aware of it persay but just let it flow, it is hard to do but when you gain the hang of it, you will fall asleep faster and well oddly enjoy it, it is just your brain starting to sort out your day keeping in the good and getting rid of the stuff that isn't needed, when we sleep our brain sorts out everything at once, we are not suppose to remember this because it is well the most scariest thing our mind can handle if we did, imagine everything you did that day being summed up in 2 secs and sorted our brain can't handle that and understand that so it makes unware of it, there is a certian word for this but i forget I hope someone can add this to and share the word and maybe a wiki for it lol. But what you experince is the start of this, when you focus on it I bet you get a shock feeling and become fully awake for a few mins then pass out it is because you yourself can not handle the thoughts, anyways take care.

Yeah, this happens to me all the time. Generally I use it to gauge how close I am to falling asleep. I usually only get auditory hypnagogia, so the louder and more clear the things I hear become, the closer I am (usually) to falling asleep.

I know exactly what you mean. It's like you the transition between normal sensible thoughts and turning them into the nonsense that comes with dreams. Then for a moment, you wake up and think, what the h e double hockey sticks was i just thinking about? And it is sometimes very difficult to remember, even though it was literally seconds ago.

I generally have this when taking a nap. I'll start dozing off then suddenly regain consciousness. I find that i talk to myself and my thoughts are sporadic.
