someone or something is always there.

Ive not been able to lucid dream for quite a few years now. When i was young i hated the feeling, but as an adult i tried to control it. Although i was never that good at it.

But all the time i knew i was dreaming there would be a presence there in the room. When i was young i used to call it the shadow. Sometimes it would press down on my body causing what felt like real pain. I think this is what must have been the real frightening part when i was younger.

Life over the past few years for me has changed and i stopped focussing on my dreams so much, but its something that fasinates me and i will try to get back into them.

This forum is fantastic and i already feel i can relate to a lot of the things ive read.

Something is always there, however, most are not made aware of it. What is given is dependent upon one's own psychological requirements.

It must bother you in some manner to know that your mind is always open to something. Sometimes it is called "God" or "gaurdian" etc.

It generally keeps an extremely low profile because developing psychological habits that are counter productive to the development of the mind is not what is desired.

I have had a hell of a time with understanding this, especially when someone must use what has been given for a demonstration. For example, the Scripture is set up for a demonstration about the human mind and its job. If it were stated in pure scientific terms, it would not be as effective a demonstration.

Suffice it to say is that the function of the human mind is predictive in nature--to learn from the past in order to determine future will that maintains and promotes life. From the simplest movement of the body to planning one's life, and beyond. Nothing mystical, it is just what it is suppose to do--and I would suspect that life in the galaxy promotes it, guides it, etc. Nothing to be afraid of, however, the awareness of life beyond man, more capable, is troubling to many.

If you have thought about it, man always views himself as ready for encounter--he imagines himself as a standard.

I would recommend mastering your fear and move on.

I suspect you may have been feeling your covers on top of you and your mind emphasized the feeling. I think Philosopher is speaking out of personal religious beliefs; I agree that you need to face whatever is bothering you and move past it. Anyway, glad to see you are enjoying the forum and the resources it provides.

Ive never thought that maybe it was the covers on my bed, possibly. although sometimes this 'shadow' is at another point in the room, like its just watching me. I think like said, i have to try and face this or possibly ignore it and try and move on. It's my dream i should be able to get passed this by realising that i can do what i want.

it could be sleep paralysis. the feeling of something pushing down on you could just be the inability to move. in my experiences when i used to have sleep paralysis a lot uncontrollably it felt like there was a scary presence in the room. i looked up the wiki thing on SP and it talks of audio and visual hallucinations and an evil presence in the room. i have definitely had audio hallucinations no visual ones though. but this could explain what youve been experiencing

[QUOTE=samson721;1512126]it could be sleep paralysis. [QUOTE]

That is quite interesting, it does feel like an evil kind of presence as i do feel afraid. But i am sure i have been able to control my actions in this state. Although it has been quite some time, perhaps i am mixing up sleep paralysis and LD'ing.

Is there similarities between the two?

I believe so. Most of my "traumatic" sleep paralysis experiences where just before starting to lucid dream. Most of them always had a presence in the room that sometimes was a shadow, other times was a clear figure. It is just one of the mindtricks you suffer when entering this altered state. Normally I would also hear voices and screams that would freak me out. As a kid, every presence in the room had this evil feeling to it that made me hate the experience.

If you try to face the experience with a neutral relaxing attitude, it will fade quickly and you will not be scared of it anymore. Try to see it as a good sign that you are entering your dreams consciously

Next time you see the shadowy figure, instead of fearing and hating it, inject all your love into it

If you can tell it that you love it. This should either make it go away, or even make it a positive experience. Imagine what it will feel like to finally face up to this figure, to love it will help you understand it.

And the pressure you feel is common occurrence in sleep paralysis. In folklore it is called the old hag. Just know that it's not real and can't hurt you. Heck most people on these forums have come to even enjoy these things as they mean they have entered sleep paralysis and have the opportunity to consciously slide into a lucid dream (see WILDing in the tutorial section).
