Cool Thoughts on 'Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming' book?

Sup, lucid dreamers? I just copped the book 'Exporing the World of Lucid Dreaming' by Stephen LaBerge and Howard Rheingold from Barnes & Noble. To anyone who has read this book, what is your opinion on it? I'm definitely going to start reading it in school(and in study hall especially).

PS: If my memory serves me correctly, this book was published quite awhile ago, right?

I remember there was a LOT of info, and it got a little dry, but it had a some good techniques and meditations for getting into a lucid dream. Actually I think he may have created a lot of the terms they use here, but it's been quite a while since I've read it >.< Was thinking about picking it up again though, so I'm curious to see what more experienced LDers have to say about it.

It would've been a great resource for me if I'd never been on Dreamviews before, but I bought it after I'd been here a few months. Due to that, I found it didn't really give me much new information and actually felt a little bit out of date. I hate to bash it because it's an excellent book and would've been awesome for pre-dreamviews me, but to be honest it's not really worth buying if you're familiar with most of the topics on here.

My thoughts on it? Hmm, let's see. I went from never having lucids, to DILDs everday.

Seriously though, it's a good book. Even though there's nothing new, the techniques are explained with more detail, and he has an excercise to make sure you succeed at MILD.
      Lucid dreams, gotta love em.

What exercises do you mean, Elucive? I'm guessing you mean the prospective memory training?
My LDing record, if you want to hear about it, is about 4 WILDs, 1 DEILD, and the rest DILDs.

Yeah, that's what I meant. It's a really good activity. I kind of gave up on it at first because it was REALLY hard to remember the tasks, but when I put all my effort into it, it greatly improved my memory. I still can't get all the targets, but MILD works whenever I feel like having a lucid. It's a shame people overlook the book and the technique. :/

Well, some of the techniques in the book seem a little dated, but it was made by Stephen LaBerge, and he practically pioneered most of the techniques on this site. Most of the techniques here stemmed off of Stephen LaBerge's work. If anything, it's a good lucid dreaming history lesson. All in all, it's worth a read.

That's not to say that the techniques in the book don't work, they do. But most of the information, and a lot of it more in-depth, can be found on Dreamviews too.

I found it cleared up a lot of misconceptions and topics that don't seem well-understood by a lot of people (like dream signs). Of course, I just got the pdf version...

It's a great book. But LaBerge is a scientist and consequently approaches dreams from a materialistic point of view.

If you are interested in a more spiritual point of view, I would recommend Conscious Dreaming by Robert Moss. Actually it is probably a good idea to read and study both approaches.

I only had the PDF but purchased the book because I felt like it made a statement to myself. I felt like I would feel more willing to lucid dream. It did help, and contains a lot of information. I recommend the book. But you must obey it, it doesn't work like magic.
