It's kind of the same reason some people scoff at video games, or hate on people who don't have a job. So many times an interest is measured on how much social interaction it involves, at least in a westernized culture.
But I also think that there is something deeper. Dreaming is such a huge part of lives, yet so many people neglect it when they are awake. I think this is because your dreams do say something about who you really are, and to investigate that at all is fear-inducing to a lot of people. I really think people are scared of their dreams.
But anyway, on top to this: You shouldn't care what other people think about. I mean, it's like you like different flavour of soda but the other kids hate it. I mean... and??? Are you gonna stop drinking it cause they don't like it?
One of my closest friends lucid dream with me, it's pretty cool. (When i say with me, i don't mean SDing :3 ) but when i tell other people about it, my friends tend not to judge me as they know the kind of person I am.
