      Thank you!

Hi everyone, I've been lurking these forums for a few months but today I finally have something cool to post. Up until this morning, I've never had a lucid dream and to be honest, I was getting really frustrated in my apparent inability to have one.

In addition to keeping a dream journal, I've been trying to induce a LD through many of the various methods but haven't had much luck. That being said, I have constantly had dreamsigns/reality checks constantly on my mind so I think that's what really helped me become aware in my first LD.

I woke up this morning around 7AM, spent around 20 minutes browsing Reddit, then decided to go back to sleep. I drifted into a dream that involved me running into some friends in New York (where I just moved to); nothing that interesting really happened and I was not lucid. Later in the dream, I go back to my house to take a shower. At this point, I look into the mirror and realize that not only is my hair extremely long (it's usually short), I only have a huge fucking cyclops eye in the middle of my face.

At this point, I realize something is really wrong. I suddenly remember reading here that self-distortion in mirrors are often telltale signs that one is in a dream. As soon as I made the realization, everything seemed to "come alive" right in front of...I've never had a dream feel that real before in my life. I touch my face and I can feel the texture of my skin just as it feels in the real world, I slide my fingers across the mirror and I can feel the cold, hard glass. It was unbelievable. I knew that what I was experiencing wasn't real but it honestly felt indistinguishable from reality, I had no idea that a dream could feel that vivid and real.

The bad news is that in all my excitement, I started to lose hold of my dream and started to feel myself waking up. I attempted the spin technique to keep me lucid but I remember everything turning black and I slowly woke up. While I was bummed that I couldn't take full advantage of my LD, I was beyond excited that I had my first taste of what it feels like.

Anyway, I just have to say thank all of you for the invaluable discussions and tips. I was seriously starting to question my ability to attain lucidity until this morning. Now I am more excited and motivated than ever.

For anyone who has not yet attained lucidity, keep everything you've been reading about the subject on your mind. It will happen and when it does, it will blow your mind.

Welcome to the world of lucid dreaming. I am amazed you you just stood still and felt things, as opposed to just begin freaking out and yelling like many do the first time. It is also weird, that it made your dream fade, for me, it made it more stable. Anyways, a good way to stabilize is rubbing your hands, and spinnig around.

In retrospect, just touching things was a pretty lame way of taking advantage of my lucidity! I remember trying to keep my cool because I read another person's account of being so excited that you wake yourself up. Sadly, the realization that I was dreaming was enough to snap me awake since I've been wanting to do this for so long. I'll definitely try rubbing my hands next time!
