      Hi

Hey all, I already had my first post in the Attaining Lucidity forum (http://www.dreamviews.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13834) and gave myself a basic introduction in there. I just wanted to say hi and that I will probably be a regular member to the forum from now on.

      Things about me:
      - 18, soon to be 19 year old male.
      - go to Northeastern University in Boston, MA for Electrical Engineering
      - have been reading about the mind since I was young, starting with a book report on dreams in the 2nd or 3rd grade.
      - not religious, but believe in something...more
      - single 8) but happy
      - I drink on the weekends, and smoke pot occasionally -- but all in moderation
      - Havent remembered my dreams since I was little
      - Have a feeling I know how to control my dreams, as I know I can become conscious during a nightmare and wake myself up (although I havent had a nightmare since I was young, so I havent had to do that in a while). I just dont remember how.
      - I like to DJ in my sparetime. I listen to all types of music, but mix mostly hip hop and R&B. (click sig for music, my best song is "move girl")
      - I like to chat with hot babes online all day

      Things I have recently discovered:
I had a dream about someone very important to me leaving when I was younger, and I think that is when my dream recall went blank
I remember having dreams where I was running up the street towards my house, but gradually started slowing down until I had no power anymore. I could barely squeeze my fists. I definetly think I used to have lucid dreams, I just dont remember any of them.

      Things I want to acheive:
      - Be able to remember at least one lucid dream per night, consistently.
      - Be able at least one dream per night with extreme vividness/lifelike feel.

I have started to keep a dream journal, but have not had much success with the recall.
I have had a realization this afternoon about how I think I can WILD, I just dont know that I am doing it. Read my post here http://www.dreamviews.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13834 . Thats about it.

Looks like you've got a lot of determination and preperation behind you. You're definitely ready for some nice LD'ing! Especially for a newbie. Though, just a tip, drop the pot. Moderation or no, it screws with your dreams. Bad. And not to mention the CRAP it will do to your life. And the smell is horrid. Definitely not good if you're looking for chicks.

Er...and I'd get rid of the hip-hop too. But that's just personal preference....(Long live ROCK! ) The drugs, on the other hand, will just screw everything up, and that's been supported by hell knows how many scientific studies.

It is wonderful to have expectations which will push us to the very limits of possibility, but also inherently frustrating. The vividness of dreams has something to do with a kind of consciousness energy that is almost substantial – one can feel it wax and wane, ebb and flow. What we ordinarily experience is the ‘normal’ amount of this energy. This is what allows us to remember our dreams at all, that they were tossed up with enough energy to be perceptible. Yes, every so often, by whatever economics the psyche was able to save up a charge of this energy, some great burst is given to us, for what become our Big Dreams or our special Lucid Dreams. Can we expect this every night? Well, not ordinarily. You would have to be doing something that would generate more of this energy then is generally common. You have people on this site talking about special diets and special herbs. There are Yogic Techniques, breathing exercises, even prayers and mantras. And they may all increase the Base Level of this Consciousness Energy, and increase the frequency of Big Dreams… but everynight!?

There is also the problem of Dream Content and the Purposes of the Dream Mind or the Higher Self. Dreams are not to be viewed as being the same as video games which are only intended to be amusing. Dreams are intended to shape, guide and develop our Personalities and hone our Spirits. Dreams are created by some Higher Intelligence in order to help us resolve our issues, and to lead us to realize our own best potentials. So, we must consider how much material we can process every night. Can we really expect ourselves to learn and digest a new important life lesson each and every night?

Then there is the problem of Finite Intelligence. Even if one were able to assimilate important new life lessons each night, we would need to wonder about the Dream Creation Mechanism, and how fast it can work. For instance, we may have had a series of dreams, a motif, in which the same problem in variations was shown to us again and again, but we just were not getting it – we responded inappropriately to what the Higher Self was expecting and so the same kind of dream was occurring repeatedly. This is not difficult for the Dream Mind to maintain. Like formulistic Hollywood Screenplays, it is easy for the Dream Mind to keep churning out the same old stuff. But what happens when you finally get it right – when you finally make a breakthrough? Well, from my own experience, it seems that the Higher Self has a Big Dream sitting in storage – pre-prepared – for just such a contingency. Big Dreams come as rewards for having passed some important dream test.

But what happens next is likely to be somewhat disappointing… a let down. Your Dream Mind will begin with the next set of lessons… a new motif. And chances are you will not respond entirely correctly at first, and will have to repeat just as before. Not only that, but your Dream Mind may actually need some time and energy in order to work up the next set of Lessons. You may go from a huge break-through dream to virtually no real dream content at all. For how long? I’ve always found the Dream Mind to be like an Office of about 30 writers and producers. They can do spectacular work, and they can do it fast. But you should expect them to take at least a week or two to create anything that will be significant or enjoyable.
