      Dream Journal

ok, im fairly new to lucid dreaming but ive actually had some decent success becoming lucid, however, my biggest problem is this,

whenever i wake up and attempt to write in my dream journal i am simply always too tired to start writing first thing in the morning, ive read articles that say you must write down your dreams first thing when you wake up but i find this very difficult.

ive also heard some people say if you are too tired, just write a few words down then write down more of the dream when you are awake and fresh, while this is good advice, i find myself forgeting some of the dream even when i have written a few words down.

i have also tried using a tape recorder to record my dreams but it just doesnt work for me.

does anyone have some suggestions to help with this problem? i would appreciate it.

      thank you.

I was going to suggest a voice recorder - why doesn't this work for you?

Do you know if you're waking up from REM or NREM?

a voice recorder does not work for me because yet again im too tired to even care about trying to remember my dreams when i wake up, im not saying im too tired every single morning but a lot of the time i dont record any dreams because i cant be bothered as im too tired.

i dont know if im waking up from REM or NREM?

Ok, before I jump to conclusions, such as that you're waking from deep sleep, how much sleep do you get each night?

i get plenty of sleep each night, probably around 7-8 hours every night. i just dont know how people can start writing down a long dream as soon as they wake up, the weird thing is, i dont see alot of people with this problem lol

Try going to sleep with the intention to notice your awakening after each REM cycle - it's actually quite powerful. This waking will be directly after one dream, and will allow it to become coherent and encoded properly (if, however, you slept through it, then it gets muddled with the next one, and so on). During this awakening, you can write it down; however, merely acknowledging what you just dreamt in that cycle is usually enough to remember it when you wake up properly in the morning. As long as you wake up after at least one cycle, and remember one dream, then it is enough.

To be honest, I rarely write my dreams down. I just acknowledge them in my mind, and try to pick out the most vivid moments.

I often wait until after breakfast to write my dreams. I spend some time as soon as I wake up to remember as much as I can, and often jot down a brief outline in my notebook. But my dreams are too long to write first thing in the morning, and I never have the time.

Normally I remember at least three dreams, which I forget if I don't write them down, a night. And I'm way too lazy to write them all so I only write the most interesting one or the possible LDs (of course I do remember some dreams even without writing them down, dreams and especially LDs with strong emotions included are the easiest to remember). I also don't have time to write my dream in the morning so I have to do it at ~18.00. Just repeat the dream a few times in your mind when you wake up and write some words down.

sometimes I don't even have time to even jot a few words because I have to catch a bus in 10 minutes.
just go through your dream in your head briefly (shouldn't take more than 30 seconds) and you'll remember it, even at the end of the day.

I basically just said what the poster before me said, but as I was writing he already published, but mine is shorter
