      Odd Dream State

i had an interesting thing happen to me this morning.

i'd sort of woken up, but was drifting in a sort of semi dream thing. i was imagining myself lying in my bed in the house i grew up at. i could sense myself totally in this imaginary environment, but i knew if i were to open my eyes i'd instantly snap back to reality. i was totally 100% aware of what was hapenning, that this was some form of dream, but i could hear the real morning rush hour traffic outside.

if i thought about real life for a second, i would snap back to awareness of my real room, but i could go back to the "dream" state, if i imagined it clearly enough. i later found i could shift my imaginings to anywhere i chose.

it wasn't dreaming as such, it was too visually thin, insubstantial and manufactured, even though it "felt" very convincing. i tried spinning, but i couldn't seem to lose myself in it, to turn it into a LD. nevertheless i had a bit of a play.

i rembered about DV, but couldn't recall this months lucid task, but i did remember the "would you change your sex for a day" thread, and so i had a bit of fun with that concept . that was ahem *interesting* and felt 100% totally realistic (to my best guess obviously)

almost like "full immersion day-dreaming". does this state have an official name?

I know exactly what you are talking about. I'm not sure if this state has an official name or not, I tend to just refer to it was the "trance/hypnotic state" in between the vibrational state and lucid dreaming. From this state I have been able to go in and out of lucid dreams for about 2 hours. I like to call them "marathon lucids" because I get to the vibrational state, and I am sort of waiting there, through the HI...aware of everything, sometimes my eyes even open a little and I can see around my room and I can hear everything going on and then I have an LD, and then I end up back in sp, and the cycle continues. Sometimes its hard to distinguish the real sounds from the hypnogogic sounds when you are in that state. Anyways, I was told that this is also a hypnotic state, where you can use it to your advantage. I just don't know how. I've also used this state to try and astral project or "get out of my body". I've been able to get out of my body before but I don't know if it was just a weird dream or anything significant.

Anyway, it's cool that you have experienced this. Now that you know what it is like you can use this to your advantage to have many more lucids. Sometimes it can get frustrating when you feel like you are about to LD but you are just kinda waiting there...

This happened to me one time..

I was "dreaming" (or whatever I should call it) while I was fully aware that I was lying in my bed. It wasn't just a feeling, I could see my ceiling too..

I suppose that happened because my lucid started so damn late that it was time to get up from bed anyway
      hey

Thanks for your comments, I really hope its the same thing, since I seem to be able to easily get to and maintain this state, but this wasn't accompanied by hypnogogic sounds at all, my hearing was entirely reality based. This also wasn't part of the vibrational thing, I just kind of drifted into this state after i woke up at around my normal waking time.

Any hints for how to turn this into an LD? I tried all sort of things, but I couldn't totally immerse myself in it.

Honestly, I can't really give you any tips to getting into LD from here. You just have to wait. Let your mind run away with you...soon you will reach hypnogogia and then from there eventually enter lucid. Sometimes it happens faster than other...sometimes I wait for several minutes and get sick of it and just get up. Hope that helps

Try a Pressured Sci-fi (see the interpretation area!). It'll look alot more realistic then!!

I'm new here, and I'm not a student of the lucid dreaming discipline per se, but I do have decades of experience with altered states, and my own 'learned perspective'. I recognize the state you are describing. I believe you mentally synchronized (harmonized) with a spiritual realm that is outside of time. Within that state you can travel... just as you would in astral projection..... except it seems that you only go there with your spiritual body, and not necessarily your astral body... You can project to any place and time... just as those who have passed on can. When we go to a place like that we can sometimes interact with others who have already passed on.... and can do so in a way that is shockingly clear and real, where it is not a spinoff of a previous memory.... entirely new exchanges can happen, with current context. I am absolutely convinced from my own personal experience involving validating evidence, that these can be REAL interactions with the spirits of those who have passed on.
It seems that moving to a comfortable past locale can sometimes help those kinds of connections happen more easily. Then again.... sometimes we need to go to places like that, just to find a remembered experience or sense of peace. As a side note> while it sounds like you did move in time.... I should mention that we could also travel astrally to a childhood house.... but I believe it would have to be in the current time frame.
