      The Succubus

Funny day today. I had a non-vivid dream last night in which a family member was dieing and it was down to me to do the right thing to try and save them. At the time the accident happened I was also with a woman, a beautiful woman, she was one of these women who no matter what she looks like, at the time of dreaming is the woman of your dreams. My relative was unconcious and I was supposed to phone an ambulance, but (lets call them) relative1 told me they would take care of it and that I was to go and get relative2. But when I set off to do so, this woman was still there and was with me all the way. She kept talking to me, flirting with me, she even took her jacket off revealing her self in the most beautiful evening gown, I was falling in love with her. This went on for what felt an hour but was probably only a matter of minutes, but, when we got back to the scene of the accident my relative was dead. I turned to her and said "I should have phoned an abulance shouldn't I?" and she replied "yes."

Just before however, I was randomly introduced to the character of the Succubus with no relation to my dream what so ever. I knew roughly what the Succubus was, but I decided to Google anyway, and I found this on Wikipedia.

"In folklore traced back to medieval legend, a succubus (plural succubi) is a female demon who takes the form of a human woman in order to seduce men, usually through sexual intercourse.[1] In modern times, a succubus may or may not appear in dreams and is often depicted as a highly attractive seductress or enchantress, while in the past succubi were generally depicted as frightening and demonic.[2] The male counterpart is the incubus."

I met a Succubus; as beautiful and enchanting as she was, she destracted me away from the real plot of the dream and because of her my relative died. I don't blame my self for my relative dieing, it was a non-lucid dream so I didn't have control or the concious state of mind to save them, but it's still dissapointing in a way and kind of interesting that I'd come across such a character not only on the same night, but the very next day as well.

If this was a succubus I would suggest that you get some type of spiritual guide or holy man. These things can be extremely dangerous don't take your experience lightly. But don't worry too much though because this could have simply been a dream character.

Ugh, I've had several similar dreams. -.-'' In one dream (one of my first major lucid experiences) I had stolen something important from someone who I thought was dangerous. After taking it, I ran through the woods and hid in some sort of cave. As soon as I thought I was safe, a girl ran in and tried to take the object from me. I wouldn't give it to her so she took off her clothes, we ended up having sex, and then she walked away with whatever it was that I had stolen.

In another dream, I was looking for a girl named Catie (a DC I consider to be my dream guide) and the harder I looked, the more women appeared. Most of them started undressing and when I realized where this was heading, I tried to run away so I could continue my search uninterrupted. The women chased me down and I had to kill them to keep them from distracting me but I eventually gave up and had sex. In fact, every attempt I've made during the last month to find my "dream guide" has led to aggressive female DCs wanting me to give up the search and have sex with them. =/ Now that I think about it, during these dreams I wasn't able to keep in mind that I can simply will these DCs away like I do during most other lucid experiences.

In any case, I doubt it was the work of a demon. This idea of a succubus is kind of interesting though.

Interesting. You see, I've had a lot of dreams including female dream characters, but this one was quite unique as you could obviously tell. When I'm with a woman in a dream it's usually a very relaxed setting, there's no sort of conflict or inconsistency in plot, it's very natural and I never suspect a thing. But this dream was very different, seeing relatives die in dreams can be hard to deal with at first and while my main intentions in my dream were help, this woman kept enticing me away and trying to change my dream and the more I fought it the more powerful it got. As we were walking around I kept forgetting the plot of my dream, it was like I was following the dream plot but my main drive was to put my focus on her and our "relationship." The colours in my dream were greens, blues and browns at one point I turned away and when I looked back she had taken her coat off and she was wearing a bright red/pink dress, the brightest and most vivid colour in the dream. I can't describe the feeling, I deffinately felt enchanted by her...

Well it doesn't sound like a succubus to me...sounds like it was just a very attractive dream character that distracted you from what you needed to be doing. The whole point of the succubus is that it is there just to have sex with you, whether you want to or not. A succubus "takes" what it wants, it doesn't need to "seduce" you. Also the fact that you had feelings of love towards this woman makes it even more unlikely that it was succubus.

I wrote a long response to this and when I went to post it I found out that I was no longer connected to the internet and the post was lost! Alas, I suppose I am supposed to make it more concise.

If these dreams (both of you GavinGil and AstralFlame) were mine I would look at my attitude towards sex. The myth of the succubus came from oppressive dark ages Christian and puritanical societies which had a very unhealthy attitude towards sex. In these societies it was a sin to even have a sexual thought. Of course, this life-force which is denied has to force itself to be recognized and would naturally appear aggressive or demonic. Then the 'good' Christian is not responsible for his own sexuality but blames a demon or devil.

If i were dreaming these dreams I might also look at where I am in relation to women. For example, right after the last serious committed relationship I was in I had some unresolved anger towards my ex and I had not forgiven her totally yet. This anger got projected onto the entire female gender. The last thing I wanted to do was get into another relationship and I was enjoying (still am!) my freedom and rediscovering my own essence and power. My dreams were filled with aggressive pushy (and ugly) women who wanted to kiss me or have sex with me. I had to push them away. What I did was seek out healing feminine energy in dreams and waking life that was based on mutual respect and an attraction to essence as well as physical with no strings attached yet intimate and respecting freedom.

In another dream, I was looking for a girl named Catie (a DC I consider to be my dream guide) and the harder I looked, the more women appeared. Most of them started undressing and when I realized where this was heading, I tried to run away so I could continue my search uninterrupted. Funny, lol. But seriously, see what I mean? Why run? Maybe it means that your guide represents a deeper connection to your own essence that all that shallow lustful aggressive meaningless life-draining sexuality that is all over in the movies and TV and the internet and at the bars and clubs and parties distracts from. So, I would look at both these possibilities. I don't know if I believe in actual literal succubi, because I have never met one in dreams, only waking life (I mean human succubi, crazy women who use sex as a weapon to get what they want, or to feel better about themselves, who use men) and I don't waste no time with them.

Astral Flame, if I dreamed your dream, I don't think it would have to do with my attitude towards sex so much, but rather a question of priorities. I can't quite put my finger on it. Is it better to let something die and feel the pleasure of life? Or forgo the pleasure of life to save something or someone dear to you who also loves you? Is romantic love more important than love between family or the other way around? Should you feel guilty or not?

On a side note: I don't think that enough people on this forum are interested in dream interpretation. Most people here are either looking for fun in their dreams (nothing wrong with that) or looking to develop skills and powers (nothing wrong with that either) but there is a lot of self-knowledge to be found if we mine deep in our dreams for meaning. Dreams are, incidentally, a language of symbols that our deep essence uses to communicate with our surface conscious mind. It is the same language of myths and legends.
