hmm thats werid, breathing is suppoed to be an unconsious thing so you dont have to think about it... instead of the lamp try focusing on the sound of your breathing, the rhythm?

I did some meditation last night and found I am sorely out of practice or i let my mind get so bogged down and jumpled with crap I had a hard time.
I kept getting distracted, stupid thoughts about dumb crap. I did manage to have several lengthy dreams but oddly none lucid, my lucidity seems to be declining which bothers me, I dont like just being along for the ride in my dreams.

Also another thing I do I imagine a flame, its fuel all the extra thoughts in your mind let it suck up all those distractionary thoughts, watch it burn brighter... Give it a shot. =)

I would suggest focusing on your breathing(I know it was already said), or focusing on certain points in the body, or energy ebbing through your body. Chakras. Stuff like that. I usually just focus on my breathing though, simplest is the best.

Oh yeah, and that lamp noise was probably helpful, they say "white noise" or "static noise", like that of a tv on no channel, is helpful, or listening to the sounds of the ocean. Stuff like that.

Like I posted somehwere else, it's hard, that's why I don't do it much... I'm not a very patient person.

Just try and concentrate on your breathing all the time. Breath in for 30 seconds hold it for thirty seconds and exhale for 30. Counting mentally.. This is a bit intense for starters but you can build up to it just shorten time to 20 etc.. I attained my bleck belt in Tae Kwon Do and my master always said concentreate on your breathing. You will eventually relax and forget about breathing. Then you will be free to do whatever. And use breathing when you are fatigued or just need to accomplish something physical that may require much effort.

      Meditating

Meditating an extremly easy job for me. After first sitting down, i start to control my breathing waiting for my Heart beat to slow down in the first min. Then my mind goes blank. I' not a very stressed person.

The only thought that somtimes bothers me while i meditae, is the 1 about how much time im wasting.

      i would.

You sit there for an hour with the purpose of emptying your head of thoughts. Whats the purpose? To become more relaxed. LOL

Id rather play Unreal Tournament. The only reason im working on LD is cuase i feel regular dreaming is a waste of time. Might as well make it productive.

What about the third eye? Try focusing on the third eye (It's this point above your eyebrows) When you focus on this point it has shown that it can make you more suseptable (?) to thoughts (almost like hypnotizing yourself) I usually focus on this point when telling myself I will have an LD but it could be helpful for meditation, im unsure...

The greatest way to meditate is to force yourself to breath, make sure it is all you think about.

That’s right, when meditating you think about 1 thing (breathing, breathing, breathing).

Try to breath as fast as possible, without moving your entire body while doing so.

      Breath, breath, breath!

      really. I am serious.

After about 30 minutes, if you can last that long, you will be closer to divinity(lol)

As I mentioned in an earlier post, the purpose of mediation is to release the kundalini and energize the chakras therefore establishing a line of communication with the source. I CRINGE every time I hear someone say that mediation is just for relaxing. Most of you in here are lucid dreamers, try meditating while dreaming.

Yes you can rid yourself of all those annoying distractions like hunger thirst and outside stuff, you can meditate for a VERY long time...

My great grandfather could hover slightly while meditating (im not lying). He had been practicing and using meditation for 45 hears.

But, he did not call it meditation. He called it increased breathing.

a few days ago i tried meditating while bouncing a ball. it made a sound when it hit the floor, and a sound when it hit my hand as i cought it. i'd count: 1,2 1,2 1,2...at first i'd think the numbers, then after a while i'd focus only on the sound. this was alot easier than what i was doing before, but i still need practice.
