Lucid Dream Veterans can you help me out here?

So I just signed up to Dream Views and I have to say that I am very excited to be a part of this forum. I am 26 years old and have always had pretty amazing dreams. Howevere Ive never had an actualy lucid dream (one in which i can control what happenes). I am very interested in this and have been doing some research and for the past week and a half, have been attempting lucid dreaming every night. Id like to get some feedback on what I have experienced so far to see if I am on the right track.

So for the first few days I really didnt experience any results with the audio tapes I have aquired. They are basically just audio of some frequencies ( dont know what exactly) and a guy counting me into sleep.. These dont seem to work for me as they keep me awake. I just cant fall asleep when someone is talking at me. Maybe I should try the tones just by themselves?> I have also tried the method where you lie completely still and just focus on falling asleep while kinda talking yourself into lucidity. The method suggests not to move your body when you feel the need to roll over or have an itch., This is absoultely impossible for me because everytime I try and focus on sleeping, it keeps me awake and I do begin to itch (weather it be my nose, head, whatever). The method suggests to ignore these impulses but it is absolutely impossible. It just wake me up even more when there is an itch I cant scratch. So this method hasnt been working for me,.

So for the last few nights I have decided to just lay how i normally would to fall asleep, roll, over, scratch my nose when it itches , etc etc. My normal sleep routine. However, In the last couple days, by doing this, I have somehow subconciously trained my mind to recognize the moment I begin to fall asleep.. Last night I had my first ''peek'' at a lucid dream ( I think) and I am hoping someone can confirm this or let me know if Im on the right track...

So like I said, my brain now becomes aware of the moment I am falling into sleep and alerts me almost like its telling me '' hey dude this is your moment for lucidity focus now''. So last night I recognized this moment and was halfway between sleep and conciousness. (At this point I am sleeping) I felt as though I had one eye open (but i know i was asleep) and i could see myself neck down as if i were awake in a normal state ( I know i was sleeping though). At this moment I tried a trick that I have read somewhere to exit your body. It is called the bottlecap? Where you visualize yourself uncapping in a circular motion from your body if that makes sense. Heres where I am confused.

The uncapping method seemed to work because as I ''twisted out of my body'' I went back to a first person perspective as if i were awake. At this point I believe I was in partial lucidity because I could completely feel myself out of my body running around my apartmernt in excitement just to see if i could go room to room. The weird thing though is I only had the physical sensation of this. Like I said I felt as though I only had one eye open so it was very hard for me to visualize or see the rooms in my apartment. I could only sense that I was moving room to room, with a very very slight visualization of it. However i was completely aware that i was in a dream.. So In this partial lucid dream state, so far i uncapped myself from my body and am running around my apartment but it feels like my eyes are closed and it is very hard to SEE what was around me. I only had the sensation and awareness that i was running room to room in my apartment. So here is my quetion.

Once I have uncapped myself from my body and am in this PARTIAL lucid state. What should I do to completely become lucid? The strange thing to me was that I couldnt control anything. At best I was only aware that I was asleep, out of my body, and walking around my apartment blindly. Does the visual representation come a while after more traing or should that come right away? For a dream, running around my own apartment isnt very cool lol but i definitely appreciated the new state of being. I tried to get a visual of what was going on around me but i dont think i have enough control over my mind yet because i couldnt get a clear visual of what was going on and i all i could do was walk around my apartment. At some point moments later i must have fell back into regular dream state. I was sooo close. . But i think it may be the first step to realizing when i am dreaming. How do i take this a step further and control my dream while maintaing this out of body awareness?> Any tips from Vets? am i on the right track? It felt very different than anything ive felt before but I think I became nervous in this state which is not surprising because its very scary at first.. This is only week two for my attempts and I feel i am getting closer. Has anyone had the same initial experiences?

I forgot to mention that I had fallin asleep two hours earlier with no dreams at all on the couch from 10:30, woke up on the couch at 12:30 . Then crawled into bed. I was already very sleepy and it was easy for me to fall back asleep. This is when my partial lucid dreams occured (between 1:00am and 3:00). I know these times are exact because after my lucid dream that I have described, I had two regular dreams and then woke up and checked the time.. The crazy thing is, that these two secondary ''regular'' dreams were the most vivid and intense dreams I have had in years. I woke up and immediately was able to describe the entirety of both regular dreams in full detail to my gf who happened to wake up at the same moment from a dream she was having. It is very rare that my regular dreams are so vivid (they were so vivid that everything seemed absolutely tangible but wasnt lucid because i had no control, just the ride along). Usually as i awaken, these regular dreams are left as vague imprints which i could somewhat describe, but these i could describe step by step exactly and even remember the colors of everything (extremely brilliant and vivid colors). I am wondering if my partial lucid dream had anything to do with this or if my self trainng is really working and im seeing the beginning stages of being an awesome dreamer..

Anyways sorry about the lengthy post, I'm just so damn excited about my dreams now. In fairness it did say this is the Newbie part of the forum though : )

Please if anyone has any feedback at all how to get me into the full lucid dream... well thanks in advance. Or Id like to hear anyone who has experienced anything similair in their beginning training stages of lucid training.. Thanks very much!,

      to DV!

Sounds like your first Lucid dream was a WILD(Wake Induced Lucid Dream)! *!High Five!* I don't think I've talked to anyone other than my self who first experienced lucidity with WILDs. Make sure you always sleep a few hours before trying; I have NEVER been able to WILD before sleeping at all. Doing Wake Back to Beds(WBTB) is the best thing you can do when trying to lucid dream. I normally sleep for 5-7hours before WILDs.

Sounds like you had much more success than me the very first time, but I had a very similar first experience. The first time I was successful I simply rolled out of my body and immediately woke up from excitement. The second time I was successful I floated up above my body vertical and just floated there for a few seconds with no visuals at all. Finally the third time I floated out of my body and floated around the room for a little bit with very blurry visuals.

Even today my WILDs start out with very poor visuals that take a while to develop. Just maintain focus on the feelings that you do have and the dream will hopefully start to develop around you. Practice is the main thing.

You're definitely on the right track, just keep at it and I'm sure you have many Lucids ahead of you!

Hi! Wow that was a long post, I'll try to answer your questions hehe. The techinque you're focusing on is called WILD. I guess it's good for people with not so good ability to recall dreams, but I'd suggest you try the other techniques out aswell. They don't rely on lying awake, missing out on sleep or going through horrible SP sensations.

You were in a dream, fully lucid, but the dream quality was sucky. It is usually so after a WILD or DEILD. To increase the quality, all you gotta do is activate your senses. Rub your hands and feel the wall. Really strain your eyes to see the wall and it's intricate patterns. Try yelling: "Light!" to bring forth light. Why the quality was so bad was probably because you tried a WILD after just a few hours of sleep. Try sleeping 6 hours next time, and you'll end up in REM almost straight away. It's in REM you want to be lucid! With REM comes quality and length.

That's my two cents. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask. I probably missed a few hehe.

Also, subliminal messages or binaural beats. I don't use them except when I'm meditating. Some people claim they work wonders, and if they really affect the brain activity, or if it's placebo doing it's magic, I have no idea. No matter which one it is, if it works, then it works! Don't underestimate placebo.

Good luck, and keep on dreaming!

Sorry about the double post. I did'nt know which section it belonged in. But I guess now I know since it was moved. What is the ''SP'' you refer to?

Sleep Paralysis. Some people experience it hardcore, others pass right through without really noticing it. In my earlier WILDs I normally was paranoid and randomly fearful in SP, but now days I enjoy it because I know I'm about to be in a lucid dream.

Oh sleep paralysis. Thanks for the Dictionary Link. I havnt had time to go through the entire site yet. Been a busy day. It seemed like my sleep paralysis only lasted for a few seconds. The sleep paralysis is what cued me to realize I was about to hit my window of oppurtunity for lucid dreaming so I sort of just embraced it.
